Located in the Khanh Hoa Province of Vietnam, Nha Trang is a coastal town with 10kms of beach and an average daily temperature of 26oC. With a population of around 300,000, Nha Trang retains a small town ambience and its inhabitants are genuinely friendly and welcoming of the increasing numbers of tourists arriving there for holidays and short trips. 
The beach at Nha Trang is popularly hailed as the country's best seaside spot and is an ideal place to take the kids for a relaxing day out. The beach is rarely crowded, even during Vietnamese holidays and you won't be bothered unnecessarily by hawkers or curious locals. Sunbeds can be rented and drinks can be ordered without ever having to get up. The kids will enjoy the usual beach activities such as bathing in the sea, making sandcastles and burying Dad up to his neck. 
New Years Day: other than for business purposes, the changing of the year in the Gregorian calendar is given little observance by the Vietnamese. It is a national holiday but there are little in the way of celebrations. 
Sample the local cuisine. Vietnamese food is famous across the world and indeed for good reason; it's highly tasty, not overly spicy and very healthy. In Nha Trang, there's no shortage of places to try the local food which is something of a mix of northern and southern influences. For an up-market meal that's guaranteed to please, head for the restaurants of the city's reputable hotels such as the VinPearl, the Vien Dong or the Ana Mandara. 
International visitors can fly into Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh airport then take a connecting domestic flight to Cam Ranh airport. Alternatively, visitors can go from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh to Dalat airport then travel by road from Dalat to Nha Trang. 
Vietnamese is the main language spoken in Nha Trang although some older citizens may speak French as a throwback from period of French colonisation in the previous century. Competent English is generally spoken by those working in reputable hotels while those working in other establishments aimed at tourists will normally speak enough English to be able to deal with the needs of westerners.
