Hoi An’s label the ‘Ancient City of Vietnam’ is an apt description for this wonderfully charming destination in central Vietnam. UNESCO seems to agree, having awarded it World Heritage status in 1999. Wandering through its protected old town core, visitors are transported back to the 16th century when Hoi An was Vietnam’s most important trading port.

Hoi An is not loaded with entertainment options that cater towards children. This is an old city with an old style, and the majority of activities involve historic sites, traditional homes and people-watching. The nearby beach at Cua Dai is always a good option and accessible to kids. Scuba diving and boat tours to Cham Island are another good way to spend an afternoon.

The highlights of Hoi An are conveniently concentrated within the old town district. All the sites are well worth visiting, from the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge to ornate assembly halls.

The nearest airport to Hoi An is in Danang, which has frequent connections to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some flights to Bangkok, Singapore and Siem Reap. Danang International Airport is the most important airport serving central Vietnam and is equipped to handle most passenger needs, featuring ATMs, toilets and refreshment stands. Airlines serving the airport include Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air and Silk Air.
