Rated #23 for all Ho Chi Minh hotels
We chose this hotel because it was listed in all the guidebooks and because of its central location. I would recommend it for its location, facilities and good staff. However, in terms of price, one may be better to stay at one of the many guesthouses for about US$8 about 15 minutes walk away....

I have been staying at the Rex a couple of years ago already and as it was renovated and upgraded to 5 stars give again a try. But although I was staying in the renovated wing, the quality of the rooms was at best 3 stars. Although in a rather busy/noisy (central) location, they used single glas for the windows and the door to the small balcony (the latter did not close well and thus I had the feeling to be on the street (for this reason I had to reject the first two rooms; the third room was to the inside court and had no view, sun etc. but it was at least not noisy) and the fittings in the bathroom were of very low quality.

The location of the Rex was great, but the hotel is in need of a remodel, which is currently being done. I give the room a "good" rating because it was a good size and clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful and I would recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for a high three star or low four star place to stay.

Run down and tired, this hotel has seen better days. small interior window looking into a light shaft. It did have a seating area but I would hardly call it a suite. walking distance to ther market and shopping area. Enjoyed the roof bar and restaurant.

This was our third stay at the Rex. We especially enjoyed the dinner and traditional entertainment in the restaurant atop the hotel, as well as the good and varied breakfasts. The hotel's Internet access was having problems, but there is good, inexpensive service across the street on the second or third floor of the modern shopping building. We have allso stayed in Saigon at the Duxton and Grand. Duxton is a good, modern hotel, similar to what you'd find in any number of cities. The older, three story side of the Grand has lots of colonial era charm. All three hotels are well located.
