Tucson has a wonderful climate which blesses it with an impressive 360 days of sunshine per year. Low levels of humidity bring hot and dry days and cool and clear nights. The city experiences four seasons, across which temperatures rarely, if ever, drop below 20oC.
This well-known Tucson attraction is a mix of zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, making it popular with visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Few folks miss out on the chance to view the creepy crawly collection that includes scorpions and tarantulas or to check out desert creatures such as black bears and coyotes. The half-hour long Walk-with-a-keeper tours are ideal for visitors wanting a closer look at the museum’s live exhibits. Phone: +1 520 883 2702; www.desertmuseum.org
If you hire a car during your stay, you can travel 96 kilometres to the US border with Mexico. Crossing the border takes you to the town of Nogales, where you'll find a wealth of shops and street vendors selling traditional Mexican goods such as jewellery, ceramics and clothing.
Situated 14 kilometres south of the downtown area, Tucson International Airport is the primary gateway to the city. The airport maintains connections with most major US cities and some international connections. However, many international flights travel via other larger and more significant US airports.
Tucson comes with the same warnings that are applicable to any big city, those being largely associated with petty criminals. With the Mexican border only a short distance away, illegal aliens looking for an easy means of making a quick buck may choose tourists as their main targets, so it pays for all visitors to keep their wits about them and make sure their cash and valuable personal possessions are in secure places.
