Situated 14 kilometres south of the downtown area, Tucson International Airport is the primary gateway to the city. The airport maintains connections with most major US cities and some international connections. However, many international flights travel via other larger and more significant US airports.
The airport’s three-level single terminal offers an excellent selection of passenger facilities, including essentials such as ATMs and information desks. A variety of outlets are on hand.
The SunTran public bus service offers an economical but slow means of reaching the city, while the Arizona Stagecoach company operates a shared minibus service that is available following all major arrivals and departures when full. Alternatively, passengers can take a taxi from the stand situated outside the terminal’s lower level entrance. Car hire companies can also be found at the airport for passengers preferring to make their own way to the city.

Tucson can be reached easily by road with the I-10 providing access from Phoenix and destinations north and the I-19 providing access from the Mexican border and destinations south of the city. For rail transport to the city, Amtrak offers connections from some US cities, while passengers preferring the bus can take advantage of the Greyhound bus service from destinations across the country.

The SunTran bus system provides the main public transportation in the city and operates services from early morning until early evening. The bus network covers an extensive area of the city. There is also a trolley service with a single line running through the downtown area. Taxis are also available and can be hailed in the street or pre-booked by telephone, with the latter being the more reliable option. The city also has some pleasant bike paths making cycling here a treat in cool weather.
