Seattle, known as the ‘Emerald City,’ is consistently rated as one of the world's most liveable places, and continues to draw thousands of visitors and new residents each year. It was founded in 1869 and is a gateway to Canada due to its location in the northwest US. Among its citizens, the city boasts three of the world’s ten richest men, including Bill Gates, head of the Microsoft empire. The city has become fashionable and a trend-setter with property prices skyrocketing over the last few decades. It’s high-tech, modern and young, with its eye on the future.
Some of the best kid-friendly attractions in the Seattle area include hands-on exhibits suitable for all ages, such as the Burke Museum, the Children's Museum, the Pacific Science Center and the Seattle Children’s Theatre. In addition, there are activities centred on animals, which include Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Seattle Aquarium and Woodland Park Zoo. The Museum of Flight provides a truly unique museum-type experience.

Paramount Theatre: free tours are scheduled for the first Saturday of the month by the Seattle Theatre Group.

Most visitors head to the Space Needle, Seattle's most famous landmark, which is often seen in the background of TV shows and films. The Seattle Center, adjacent to the Space Needle, houses a number of the city’s major attractions. Pike Place Market is another of the top sites to see while you’re in Seattle. This is where the corporate coffeehouse giant Starbucks began, as did the craze for ‘designer’ coffee in the US.

Seattle's airport, known as Sea-Tac is the largest in the Pacific Northwest. Daily services to points throughout North America, Europe and Asia are available; and Sea-Tac is a major hub for local commuter airlines, with frequent flights scheduled to and from Portland and Vancouver. The airport is located 20 miles north of Tacoma and 12 miles south of Seattle.
