The city of Portland is relatively safe with a low crime rate compared to other American cities. Etiquette in the United States is quite relaxed and casual in the majority of situations. Only in some exclusive clubs or restaurants would formal dress and perfect manners be required. In the United States, greetings are fairly casual with a handshake or by simply smiling and saying hello the most common. People’s dress can vary from casual to formal depending on the situation.
