For 3 star accommodation within easy reach of Columbus Circle and local museums and art galleries, book a room at Aloft Harlem, a charming hotel which is also a short distance from LaGuardia Airport. For a cosy intimate feel, opt for one of the six elegant guest rooms provided by The International Cozy Inn, a 3 star hotel with spacious guestrooms that include a kitchenette and en-suite bathroom, as well as wifi on request. La Maison d’Art is another small guesthouse with tastefully furnished rooms, which offers easy access to El Museum del Barrio and the Studio Museum of Harlem.

This year’s edition of Harlem Week will run from 27 July to 23 August and will be bigger and better than ever to mark the festival’s milestone ‘birthday’. There will be an impressive range of activities and events taking place throughout the month, beginning with ’A Great Day in Harlem‘, which is set to attract over 40,000 people and will include a massive outdoor picnic, a fashion show, music concerts and dance displays, not to mention arts and crafts, as well as plenty of exhibits.

Tuesday, 5 August is devoted to the older generation as part of NY City Senior Citizens Day and will feature a senior expo and charming farmer’s market, while Saturday, 16 August has been declared ’Summer in the City‘ and includes a Children’s Festival and Historic Black College Fair and Expo. There will also be concerts, the Fabulous Fashion Flava Show, Dancing in the Street and an International Vendors Village selling everything from music to hats and sculptures to food.

The final date of the festival will boast three major events including a five kilometre run and a ‘Walk-a-thon For Peace in our Communities’, not to mention a showcase of young athletic talent in the area and the Harlem Week Outdoor Film Festival, which will run from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at The Great Lawn of St Nicholas Park.
