Outdoor Activities
 

Being a beach destination, Naples has lots of sporting activities available, including all types of water sports, as well as fishing, scuba diving and tennis. Boating options here are also very good and you can either rent a powerboat or take to a cruise on a large catamaran. Kids have the beaches and the Teddy Bear Museum to keep them busy.

Boating
Cruising options in Naples abound with everything from powerboats to sailing vessels available for charter. Popular powerboat rentals include WaveRunner at the Boat Haven Marina, while Day Star Charters offers sailing ventures up the river and around Tin City daily. Sailing catamarans and luxury yachts can also be had.

Fishing
Naples Pier has good fishing and you don’t need a license. Equipment, tackle and bait can be rented or bought from shops nearby. If you fancy going fishing on a boat, the Lady Brett does half-day trips from Tin City with all equipment and licenses taken care of. Captain Paul offers backcountry fishing trips also.

Scuba Diving
Naples doesn’t have the best diving in the state but there are one or two decent sites nearby and you can also do dive courses here. The main dive company in Naples is Kevin Sweeney's ScubaAdventures on Creech Road. They will take you into the Gulf of Mexico from their base on nearby Marco Island to dive.

Teddy Bear Museum
The Teddy Bear Museum on Pine Ridge Road is perfect for families with kids with its thousands of cuddly bears in interesting exhibits. Kids can also learn how to stuff their own bear here, while mums and dads can enjoy afternoon tea or hot-air balloon flying.

Tennis
Many of Naples’ hotels and motels come with tennis courts, but if you are really into tennis, the Cambier Park Tennis Center on Eighth Avenue South in Old Naples is one of the best facilities around. There are a dozen flood-lit clay courts here that are chargeable by the hour, as well as a pro shop.

Water Sports
Naples has some lovely beaches where you can partake in water sports action. There are several companies that rent out jet-skis, including Watersports on Port-O-Call Way (phone: +1 239 774 0479). Hobie Cats and windsurfers, meanwhile, can be had at from the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on Gulf Shore Boulevard (phone: +1 239 261 2222) as well as at the Clam Pass County Park on Seagate Drive (phone: +1 239 252 4000).

Cultural Activities
 

Cultured options in Naples are good, with an interesting collection of museums for all types of visitors, including children, and several other niceties. Kids will love the Children's Museum of Naples and the Naples Depot & Lionel Museum Train Display, while those into performing arts should head to the Philharmonic Centre for the Arts at Pelican Bay.

Children's Museum of Naples
The Children's Museum of Naples is a recent addition to the Naples cultural scene and is the first of its kind in the region. The museum features 10 high quality child-friendly exhibits, including a grocery store, an art studio, a beach and a recreated slice of space. The Everglades is also well represented and the Banyan Tree and Tree House is sure to keep kids entertained.

Naples Depot & Lionel Museum Train Display
Located on Fifth Avenue South, Naples’ first passenger train station takes visitors back to the 1920s. The museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and features restored railroad cars, an antique swamp buggy and a Seminole dugout canoe, as well as interesting exhibits of the challenges the early transport pioneers faced. Miniature train rides will keep kids happy.

Naples Museum of Art
There are 15 impressive galleries at the Naples Museum of Art, where paintings, drawings and sculptures span contemporary America and ancient oriental genres. Permanent and touring exhibits are both given equal prominence in this elaborate museum, which itself features a huge glass dome and has free guided tours.

Naples Nature Centre
Located on 14th Avenue North in South Naples, the Naples Nature Centre, run by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, covers the natural history of the region and is also a wildlife rehabilitation centre. There is a 3,000-gallon aquarium here as well as an aviary with bald eagles and a number of trails. Visitors can also go kayaking at the centre.

Philharmonic Centre for the Arts
The 1,400-capacity Philharmonic Centre for the Arts features hundreds of events throughout the year in theatre, comedy and classical, dance and pop music. As well as being home to the renowned Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, it also hosts the Edward Villella's Miami City Ballet and the Naples Museum of Art. The complex is located a few miles out of Naples on Pelican Bay Blvd.

Dining & Shopping
 

Naples has diverse eating which is mainly focused on seafood and the numerous cafés at the waterfront. There is also fine dining to be had in star-quality restaurants and hotels as well as lots of snacking opportunity at the many bakeries and sandwich stands. Old Naples is the best place for the latter, where freshly baked breads and pastries can be had.

Fifth Avenue South in Naples is the main thoroughfare for eating and shopping, along with Third Street South, where gourmet restaurants and bistros are in their numbers. Another eating hotspot in town is Tin City, while Venetian Bay and Vanderbilt Beach have upscale dining.

Naples also pleases ardent shoppers with its many speciality shops and boutiques. Most people tend to congregate on Fifth Avenue South (between Third and Ninth streets), which is one long shopping and dining area, while serious shoppers head for Third Street South on Broad Avenue for the swankiest shopping. Exclusive stores here have designer clothes, jewellery and art.

Another popular shopping area in Naples is within the Old Marine Marketplace at Tin City. There are dozens of boutiques here selling all and sundry as well as good eating. This is the place to come to pick up a souvenir of Naples, while the nearby Dockside Boardwalk, on Sixth Avenue South, has even more boutiques.
