Memphis International Airport is the main gateway to the city and is located 14 km from the centre of the city. As Memphis’ only airport, it’s a busy facility that sees plenty of traffic, both domestic and international. Connections are maintained with major EU cities (London included), Canada and Australia. The airport is a major hub for Northwest Airlines.

The airport’s nine million annual passengers are well catered to with an excellent selection of services and facilities. Essentials such as ATMs and bureaux de change are present, as well as a good choice of dining and shopping outlets. Car rental offices operated by Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Enterprise and National can all be found in the Arrivals area of the airport.
A hire car offers a practical means of transferring from the airport to the city, but for those passengers preferring public transport, the Memphis Area Transit Authority provides a bus service to the city. Buses leave hourly from a stop close to Terminal C. Taxis are also available, offering metered service, and the journey to the city usually takes between 30 minutes and an hour.

Memphis is easy to reach by road with providing the principle access routes to the city and allowing speedy passage from surrounding cities and destinations further afield also. Greyhound Lines connects Memphis with cities nationwide, while Amtrak provides rail connections to the city from destinations such as Chicago and New Orleans.

Once in Memphis, visitors can take advantage of a well-designed public transport infrastructure operated by Memphis Area Transport Authority (MATA). A street-level tram service known as the Main Street Trolley provides coverage of the city centre and includes all of the main attractions so is especially useful for visitors.

Buses are also in operation and the network covers the larger part of the city, with services available to the airport and the suburbs. For visitors intending to make regular use of the bus service, the Stop and Shop pass is the cheapest ticket option.
