Top Things to Do

Enjoy some jazz
A live jazz performance is a must here, with many world-class jazz musicians having started off in Louisville, and the city is extremely proud of its musical heritage. The Jazz Factory is a popular venue and hosts two sets of live performances every night. For more information on jazz venues around the city, contact the Louisville Jazz Society at: www.louisvillejazz.org.

Visit the theatre
There are many theatres located in Louisville, with nightly performances available. You will find comedies, dramas and concerts being held throughout the year. The Actors Theatre is located downtown and often hosts shows that are popular with families.

Have a picnic in the park
Iroquois Park is home to some perfect picnic spots and if the weather is right, you may be able to catch a few rays. If you are lucky, there will be performances taking place at the amphitheatre, which offers free entertainment while you enjoy your lunch. For some after-meal activity, the Frisbee golf course is popular; you don’t need to be good at golf, as you can literally throw the ball around. There are also tennis courts and a sand volleyball course. The stunning landscaped gardens provide solace away from the busy city, where you can spend time to relax.

Place a bet on the Derby
If you are visiting Louisville in May, then you simply cannot miss out on the local Derby. This is the biggest event of the year and sees everyone out in force looking to win a few pennies. It is also the perfect chance to dress up, and for the ladies, an opportunity to wear an outrageously expensive hat.

Get your own Slugger
The Louisville Slugger is the official bat of the game of baseball. The Slugger Museum has a huge display of the original bats as well as signature plates which are unique for every major player. The museum tour is fascinating and at the end, you have the chance to buy your very own Louisville Slugger, complete with your own signature. They are made while you wait, but it’s an idea to order before you begin the tour to save on time. Everyone receives a free miniature bat after the tour, which is the perfect souvenir.
