
New Year’s Day: with huge celebrations taking over the city on the eve before, and more often than not lasting well into the early hours of the morning, Vegas is unusually quiet on this day, with most people tucked up in bed.

Valentines Day: Vegas gets romantic on this day for lovers, with elaborate decorations at the most famous complexes as well as the transformation of the city’s restaurants into love nests and candle-lit paradises, not to mention the city’s famous wedding chapels being booked out.

NASCAR Weekend: held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, this three-day event attracts speed-freaks from across the globe. Competitors must pass the Pole races on the first day to qualify, which are then proceeded by another two days of racing.

Clark Country Fair: less than an hour’s drive from Las Vegas, Logandale celebrates this traditional country fair with live music, white-knuckle rides, arts and crafts and of course a rodeo. The rodeo has a very attractive large cash prize, tempting hundreds of competitors each year.

Academy of Country Music Awards: this celebrity-studded bash showcases some of the new millennia’s country music stars, who jostle for the various prestigious awards on offer.

Independence Day: celebrated on the 4th of July, Les Vegas parties harder than usual, with impressive firework shows taking place across the desert sky. Expect celebrations and special events at all the major casinos, as well as plenty of flag-saluting in honour of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Star Trek: The Official Convention: held at a venue on Paradise Road, expect to see ‘trekkie’ hordes flocking to the convention for all sorts of Star Trek activities and updates. There are countless costumed fans and devotees fluent in Klingon.

Las Vegas Bikefest: attracting up to 30,000 bikers, the city comes alive with four days of music, partying and biking. Be prepared for a taste of life on the wild side.

Halloween: this is a fantastic time to be in the city, when all the major entertainment complexes get into the Halloween spirit with appropriate décor and accessories, as well as a few Halloween balls. Your hostesses will be in costume and there will be plenty of haunting surprises in store.

Thanksgiving Day: traditionally a day where American families gather together to give thanks for all that they have, Thanksgivings in Vegas are not much different from an ordinary day, except for the turkey all-you-can-eat buffets and extravagant decorations.
Christmas Day: Present giving, dining on turkey, and decorating Christmas trees are all part of the festivities.

Las Vegas International Marathon: with US$400,000 up for grabs as the prize, thousands of athletes compete in this fun-filled marathon that includes features only found in Vegas; a run-through wedding chapel en-route.
America’s Party: held on New Year’s Eve along the Strip, celebrations include fireworks to the tunes of some of Vegas’ old favourites – Elvis, Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra – as well as special effects including some impressive strobe lights.
