There’s a genuine fervour for sports in this city which is reflected in the priorities of its residents. Although Indianapolis boasts of being the ‘Amateur Sports Capital of the World’, it’s the big time events which have put this town on the map. The Indy 500 is the oldest car race in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year who come to engulf themselves in the power and thrills of auto racing. The infamous speedway also hosts the Brickyard 400 and America’s only Formula One Championship race.
Indianapolis may not have an abundance of theme parks which other cities can boast about, but there are a number of interesting sites which can both educate and entertain your kids. From the pioneering days of the Wild West to the modern speed and thrills of the Indy 500, there should be enough to do.

Circle City Grand National Rodeo: is a two-day event which brings cowboys from around the country to show off their skills, including bull and buck riding and lasso competitions.
Apart from one or two museums, much of the city’s charm lies in its many historic neighbourhoods, which are fun to explore. The Lockerbie Square district is full of restored Victorian homes along cobblestone streets and Broad Ripple Village is a charming neighborhood along the canal bursting with shops, bars and restaurants.

Indianapolis is home to Indianapolis International Airport, which handles around seven million passengers every year. Some 20 different airlines fly in and out of the airport to more than 100 destinations around the country and farther abroad. The airport’s single modern terminal has all the amenities a traveller may need, such as ATMs, a bank and currency exchange offices. Other facilities include restaurants, shopping and a meeting room with complete business services. An information desk can be found in the Arrivals area.
