Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is the gateway to Fort Lauderdale and the most convenient airport to fly into, being just two miles south of downtown. Several major airlines as well as low-cost carriers fly here, including Southwest, Delta, Continental, and Spirit and JetBlue, and there are also limited charter flights from Europe.

Facilities at the airport are good and include essentials such as restaurants and snack bars, ATMs and banks, toilets and telephones. Cruiseline buses, hotel shuttles and taxis provide access to the city centre and hotels.
If you can’t get a flight to Hollywood Airport, other airports within reach of Fort Lauderdale include Miami International Airport (25 miles/40kms south of Fort Lauderdale) and Palm Beach International Airport to the north. Tri-Tail provides transport from Palm Beach Airport to Fort Lauderdale as well as from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale.

Those who need to get about town could rely on the BCT (Broward County Transit) free Downtown Trolley which loops through downtown Fort Lauderdale, while the Wave Trolley runs from downtown to Port Everglades and the beach. BCT buses also serve surrounding towns and beaches, departing from downtown Broward Central Terminal.

Water taxis ply the miles of canals of Fort Lauderdale and are a great way to get about, and the city’s flatness also makes getting about by bike and skates lots of fun. Car hire is especially popular in Fort Lauderdale and you can book hire cars online and do a pick up at any airport in the region.
The inexpensive Buz Pass offers unlimited bus travel for a day within Fort Lauderdale and there is also a similar pass available for use of water taxis.
