Levels of crime in Daytona are unfortunately quite high, as with many high profile Florida cities, and you should be extra vigilant when out and about at night. Also take care on public transport and don’t go around with large wads of cash and/or jewellery on your person. When driving on Daytona Beach, be mindful of low tide times.

The greatest threat to your health while visiting Daytona Beach is getting sunburned; those spending time on the beach and enjoying summer festivals should wear sun block. There are no special health requirements while visiting Daytona, but having good travel insurance is a must as medical bills for even the smallest amount of treatment in the US are astronomical.

English is the first and official language of the USA and while Spanish is widely spoken in Florida, you will have no problems using English 24/7.
The currency of the USA is the US dollar (US$). One dollar is equal to 100 cents, all notes are green and coins round—a nickel is 5 cents, a dime 10 cents and a quarter 25 cents.

You have to be at least 21 years of age to be able to bring in the following duty-free limit amounts into the USA: 200 cigarettes, or two kilograms of tobacco, or 50 cigars; one US quart of liquor, equal to 0.95 litres; and gifts to the value of $100. US customs are pretty stringent nowadays so having everything in order is a good idea.

Americans are easygoing and Floridians are used to the massive influx of tourists in their state, particularly so Daytona Beach. Casual wear is fine all over Daytona Beach, although not walking around downtown in just your bikini goes without saying. The handshake is the usual form of greeting, yet is not as overused as with the European continent. You will be expected to tip for most services in Daytona.

European Union nationals need to fill out a form requesting a visa at least 72 hours before they plan to travel to the US. You may need to show evidence of funds and an onward ticket. Canadians also require a passport to enter the US.
