Top Things to See

Major attractions worth a look in Daytona Beach range from the beach and the racing track of the Daytona International Speedway, complete with interesting Daytona USA next door; downtown Daytona Beach; a popular chocolate factory and an ancient lighthouse. Racing fans will not be disappointed.

Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory
A Daytona Beach institution, Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory has been here for generations and still churns out Florida’s finest sweets and chocolates. Visitors can see the factory by 30-minute tour to see how sweets are made and, more importantly of course, to sample the products. Phone: +1 386 252 6531; www.angellandphelps.com

Daytona Beach
The beach is the main attraction for non-racing types to Daytona Beach and stretches for 38 kilometres. It is a hard-packed beach, suitable for driving on and is separated from the mainland by the busy Halifax River. New Smyrna Beach is also worth a look. The city is also the beach’s namesake and Main street features a pier and many shops and restaurants.

Daytona Beach River Cruises and TrolleyBoat Tours
Another aspect of seeing Daytona Beach is to get on a river cruise or trolleyboat tour. Trips go down the Halifax River, which lies between the mainland and the world famous beach, taking in many historic and natural sights, including the beach and loads of old buildings. Keep an eye out for manatees and dolphins.

Daytona International Speedway
Daytona’s main attraction for many visitors is the iconic Daytona International Speedway and you don't have to be an avid racing fan to enjoy. It can be found just west of the beach and features a four-kilometre oval circuit that holds the Daytona 500, the Daytona 200 Superbike, and NASCAR races; as well as go-karts, dirt bikes, and stock car action throughout the year. Daytona USA
Daytona USA sits next to the international speedway and teaches all about it through interactive racing experiences. There are many fun attractions here including a state-of-the-art IMAX theatre on motor sport, the popular “You Call the Race” attraction and the “STP's Daytona Time Trials”. Guided tours of Daytona USA last for 30 minutes. Tel: +1 386 947 6800; www.daytonausa.com

Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum
One of Daytona Beach’s more discerning attractions, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, is a National Historic Landmark and America’s second tallest lighthouse, standing 53 metres. It was constructed of brick and granite in the 1880s, complete with 203 steps, and has been lovingly restored. The museum features interesting artefacts, including some huge lenses, while views from the lighthouse are superb. Phone: +1 386 761 1821; www.ponceinlet.org

The Klassix Auto Attraction
Racing fans will love this one, with its collection of muscle cars, especially corvettes, and varying ages of collector cars and stock cars. The Auto Attraction also covers the history of racing in Daytona and features vintage cars and motorcycles within period backgrounds. Other highlights include the 1950s ice cream parlour and a gift shop. Phone: +1 386 252 3800.
