Airports
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is the ideal gateway to Baton Rouge, with international flights connecting many worldwide capitals, while regional airlines service the state of Louisiana and the surrounding states.

The single terminal facility has four concourses (A to D), which jut out from the main building. Baggage Claim and the Ticket Lobby are housed in the main building.

Facilities at the airport include amenities for disabled passengers, financial services, internet access points, locker rental, lost and found, a post office, visitor information, smoking areas and tax-free shopping.

Transportation options from the airport include taxis and limousines, which pick passengers up outside the Baggage Claim area; the airport shuttle service, which ferries arrivals into New Orleans, from where they can make transfers to Baton Rouge; and regular bus, with Airport Downtown Express (E-2) picking up outside Entrance 7 or the journey into the city.

From New Orleans city centre, Amtrak trains depart from Union Station, while Greyhound coaches leave from the Downtown Bus Station, with direct services to Baton Rouge. It is also possible to rent a vehicle at the airport and drive yourself to Baton Rouge, with Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty and National represented at the airport.

Parking is provided at both short-term and long-term car parks, with 3,000 spaces available in the former lot and 2,500 spaces at the latter. Both car parks are on-site and within walking distance of the terminal. Ticket-less parking in available for those with credit cards, with traditional methods can also be used.

Public Transportation

Being situated within close proximity of New Orleans ensures that getting to Baton Rouge is easy.

Greyhound buses link New Orleans with other major US cities, with frequent regional bus services in place for the short hop to Baton Rouge. Meanwhile, there are some Greyhound services that travel direct to the city, dropping passengers off on Florida street, a 15-minute drive from downtown Baton Rouge.

Local bus services are operated by Capital City Transportation (tel: +1 225 389 8282). Taxis are also available, and although possible to hail them in the street, it is recommended that you book a cab by telephone in advance (Yellow Cab: +1 225 926 3260).

Amtrak trains provide services to New Orleans, with direct routes with New York, Chicago and Memphis. Visitors arriving in New Orleans by train can then connect to Baton Rouge by Greyhound or local bus.

For those who choose to hire a car and drive themselves, Baton Rouge can be accessed from New Orleans via the River road, which follows the banks of the Mississippi across series of bridges (and some short ferry rides), or alternatively, take the quicker but less scenic route along I-10, which traverses the state, and US-61.
