Airports

Located a mere 13 kilometres from the downtown area, Austin Bergstrom International Airport is the chief gateway to the city for national and international visitors alike. The airport maintains connections with more than 30 US cities and a number of major overseas destinations. Visitors unable to fly directly to the airport can fly into a larger US airport and take a connecting flight.

The airport is a modern aviation centre offering all essential facilities, including ATMs, bureaux de change, shops and restaurants. A business centre is also available and wireless internet connectivity is possible throughout the airport. There are both shuttles and public buses providing ground transfers from the airport to the city; the journey usually takes around 40 minutes. Taxis are also available and generally make the journey in just 20 minutes.

Public Transport

Austin is reached easily by road from other US cities, with I-35 providing access from San Antonio and destinations south, and the same highway connecting with Dallas and destinations north. Amtrak provides rail service to Austin Station along the Texas Eagle Line, while bus connections from across the country are provided by Greyhound.

Once in the city, visitors can make use of an efficient bus service provided by Capital Metro. The network is extensive and features over 50 lines that extend across the urban area and into the suburbs. Fares are cheap and a 24-hour ticket is available. The same company also offers limited free trolley services in the city centre. Taxis are widely available and can be flagged down in the street or hired from outside bus and train stations, and major hotels.
