Although Sharjah has its own international airport, many international travellers arrive at neighbouring Dubai International Airport, which handles even more global flights, and is 15 kilometres away. Sharjah International Airport is located 10 kilometres from the city centre, and is one of the world’s most attractive airports.
The modern spacious terminal has every amenity you’d need upon arriving in the UAE. A shuttle bus connects the airport with the centre of Sharjah, known as the Rolla, every 30 minutes. From the Rolla you can get anywhere by bus or taxi in minutes. The shuttle is the cheapest way to get from the airport to your hotel, but taxis are also available for the 20-minute ride into the city.

Sharjah has no public transportation system, so visitors will need to rely on the local taxis or rent a car. Taxis are the main form of transport in Sharjah, available anytime of day or night. Taxis in Sharjah don’t use meters, so you’ll need to negotiate the fare before setting off. You can hail a taxi on the street or phone for a pickup.
Many of Sharjah’s nicer hotels provide free shuttle service to popular downtown locations. But if you really want to have the most freedom to explore the coastal regions or head inland to the desert or mountains, you should rent a car. This can be done at the airport, some major hotels and at car rental shops within Sharjah.
