Airports
Trat Airport (TDX) is a small domestic facility serving flights from Bangkok only, with Bangkok Airways being the only airline offering services on this route. The airport is in fact owned and operated by Bangkok Airways. Facilities in the single terminal are limited, with a small selection of shops in addition to toilets, seating areas and other basics.
From the airport to Trat town centre, passengers can take express or private buses. The Bangkok Airways minibus operates a schedule to coincide with flight arrivals and offers transportation to major hotels in the city for a fixed fee. There are also taxis available outside the airport.
Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is the airport at which the majority of international visitors arrive at. This relatively new, single terminal facility is a major Southeast Asian hub and it maintains connections with destinations across the globe. The airport offers all modern services and amenities from ATMs and bureaux de change to a wealth of shopping and dining outlets.
From the airport to downtown Bangkok, passengers can take public buses, the scheduled airport bus service or taxis. There is also a first-class bus service direct to Trat from the airport.
Public Transport
It’s possible to take the bus from either the Eastern (Ekamai) or Northern (Moh Chit) bus terminals in Bangkok direct to Trat, the journey taking around five hours. There are public buses also from Chanthaburi to Trat. Travel agents around the popular Khao San Road/Banglampu area offer minibus services to Trat and to the ferry terminals at Laem Ngop for those visitors wanting to travel to Koh Chang.
Trat town centre is compact and can be covered easily on foot. Visitors wanting to travel further afield in the province can make use of the local songthaew services. These shared taxis (converted pick-ups) leave when full and travel to a variety of destinations, including Haad Lek at the Thai-Cambodian border and the Laem Ngop pier for boats to Koh Chang. There are no discounted travel passes available in Trat, and visitors will need to negotiate their fare before travelling.
