Rayong Introduction

The beautiful province of Rayong is located approximately 220 kilometers from Bangkok anlong Thailand’s eastern coast. The province is well known for its stunning sandy beaches that seem to stretch endlessly along the coastline. The province also has awe-inspiring waterfalls and lush tropical areas. The King Taksin Shrine is one of the most popular attractions in Rayong. The shrine was built to memorialize King Taksin the Great. Another popular attraction is Khao Chamao – Khao Wong National Park. Famous for its limestone mountains and unspoilt beauty, the park is home to bears, elephants and tigers. The province has a nice selection of accommodation available. Guest can expect to receive the warm welcome and exceptional service. Rayong also offers a number of fine restaurants and a wide selection of food stalls that serve spicy and sumptuous Thai cuisine.

With more than 100kms (62 miles) of coastline, Rayong and its surrounding province provide one of Thailand’s more laid-back and authentic seaside experiences. Although the town of Rayong itself has only limited places of interest, it makes a good starting point for exploring the beautiful beaches, islands, waterfalls and national parks in the vicinity.

Usually the beaches and islands around Rayong are more than enough to keep kids entertained. Popular destinations like Koh Samet often have lots of other children for your kids to play with and most of the water sports you’d expect to find at the beach. If the sea starts to get boring, simply rent a car and head inland to one of the lush national parks. Here, kids can check out waterfalls and tramp around the jungle. There are also some decent parks in and around Rayong.

New Year: Thais enthusiastically celebrate the Western New Year even though they have their own Thai New Year in April. While Rayong may not be the most buzzing place to party, visitors can find an active scene on Koh Samet or at the beach town of Pattaya.

Rayong’s top attractions are based around the bounty of natural scenery found along its coastline and jungle interior. There are a number of pleasant beaches with a distinctly Thai vibe, as well as more touristy but beautiful islands that service the vacation needs of Bangkok residents and visiting foreigners. Two nearby national parks provide a more earthy experience, with waterfalls, wildlife and walking trails. If it’s culture you’re after, Rayong offers only the most basic elements yet it does have several important monuments, Buddhist temples and a great local market. Most visitors linger just long enough to catch a bus to Koh Samet, overlooking the charming fishing villages just along the coast from Rayong.

Although virtually no one flies directly to Rayong, there is a small airport nearby, the Rayong U-Tapao International Airport. Bangkok Airways operates a single daily flight from Phuket, but that doesn’t help many travellers. Orient Thai Airlines reportedly runs a flight from Bangkok’s airport to U-Tapao, but it’s best to check the availability of flights in advance as Rayong is not a popular or sustainable air route.
