An island of contrasts, Phuket has much to offer its visitors. White sandy beaches abound on the west coast and mangrove lined shores, on the east. A range of hills runs down her back from north to south, dividing the island in half. Waterfalls, especially in the ‘wet’ season spill into rock pools, scattered down the slopes. In the distance, islands rear out of the Andaman Sea, waiting to be explored.
Phuket…the perfect holiday island, palm fringed shores, crystal clear water and sunshine. From elephant rides to go-cart racing; from bowling alleys to beaches, there really is something for everyone, any time, any weather, any day or night for that matter.

Chinese New Year takes place around the end of January or beginning of February, according to the moon. Phuket Town puts on a show of firecrackers, lion dancers parade, live music and food stalls. Lanterns line the streets and the smell of incense wafts through the air.
Ao Sane
If you really want to get away from it all, journey to this tiny beach at the end of the road on Phuket’s southern tip. Lovely bungalows set among tropical gardens can be found at Baan Krating Jungle Beach Resort, while more rustic accommodation can be found at Ao Sane Bungalows. It’s a superb spot for snorkelling and relaxing, and popular with the sailing community during yachting season.
Phuket’s international airport has direct flights from many Asian countries, such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Tokyo.
The traditional Thai greeting gesture is called a wai (hands placed together in a prayer position at the chest, chin or forehead). There are various levels of wais, the best is to just imitate the wai that is being given to you, or place your hands at your chest. Most Thais are not accustomed to shaking hands, but more are adopting this western approach when meeting foreigners.
