The ancient city of Lampang is one of Thailand’s best kept secrets. The city has not succumbed to heavy modernization so much of the landscape has virtually remained the same for hundreds of years. Lampang was occupied by Burmese for two centuries and a good deal of the Burmese influence is evident today in the historic temples and monuments. Thais celebrate Buddha’s birthday. Local Wats (Buddhist Temples) celebrate by holding candlelit processions. A tourist may take part in these parades and it can prove great fun.
