Koh Phangan experiences a very pleasant climate year-round with temperatures ranging from 25oC to 34oC. There are three distinct seasons: warm season (February through May); rainy season (end of September through November) and the cool season (October until January). The months of June to September are a mix of hot sun and rain showers.
Mountain bikes can be hired from many places across Koh Phangan, and as the centre of the island is hilly, it is perfect terrain for an off-roading cycling experience. It might be hard work, but the stunning sights will be well worth the sweat. Baan Tai and Thong Sala are two of the best places to start your adventure from. There are no organised cycle tracks on the island, but there are plenty of natural trails to discover. Be careful if you are cycling on the main roads as these are renowned for being dangerous. The road between Ban Tai and Had Rin can be particularly treacherous as there are a number of blind corners and pick up trucks and taxis often drive recklessly.
Chinese New Year (Spring Festival): this world-famous festival is celebrated by all Chinese-Thais as well as Chinese holidaymakers, and highlights include firecrackers and lion dancers, street parades and the spring cleaning of homes. Streets are often lined with stunning lanterns and incense.
Koh Phangan boasts some stunning beaches that pay stiff competition to others in the Gulf of Thailand. Many of the islands attractions are focused on these beaches as there are so many to enjoy. Other top attractions include the island's waterfalls, the main town of Thong Sala and the Angthong National Marine Park.
Tourist buses arrive in Surat Thani from all across the country, although the most popular route is from Bangkok. These buses vary in comfort and quality and therefore price. When you arrive in Surat Thani, you will be led to another bus which you have to catch to the pier. Once at the pier, you will be able to catch a ferry to Thong Sala. If you are travelling by bus, it is important to remain alert and never leave your valuables unattended.
When you enter Thailand, you will be asked to fill out a customs declaration form. Fire-arms, narcotics and pornographic material are strictly forbidden and the penalties for drug trafficking are severe, often resulting in long-term imprisonment and even death. If you want to take antiques out of the country, you must first apply for a permit from the Fine Arts Department in Bangkok. Buddha statues are not allowed to be taken abroad.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
