Top Things to See

Koh Chang is home to some stunning natural sights which are guaranteed to keep visitors busy for their entire stay. There are countless waterfalls as well as national parks and beautiful beaches.

Bang Bao Fishing Village
This fascinating village is where local residents build their houses with poles pitched into the sea and the bridge linking every house is set up to join the community together. Bang Bao is also an area rich with corals. It has recently become a resort and recreation area with bungalows built on selected scenic sites, fine seafood restaurants that guarantee fresh daily catches and local souvenir shops.

Beaches
The best beaches are located on the island’s western coast. Chang Noi Beach is near the pier where most travellers arrive, but the majority head straight to White Sand Beach, which consists of a long white stretch bordered by a road lined with hotels, bars, restaurants and small shopping arcades. Further south, the mountain view-point before arriving at Kai Bae Beach offers exceptional views of the outlying islands. Klong Prao Lagoon is much less developed than many other beaches. Bai Lan is set in a small bay along a lengthy sandy beach and offers wonderful views.

Klong Plu Waterfall
This is one of the best known and most popular waterfalls, thanks to its proximity to the busy beaches of Klong Prao and Kai Bae. Klong Plu is a large waterfall made up of three levels. It has been an important source of fresh water for Koh Chang residents for a long time.

Koh Chang National Park Occupying an area of 650 square kilometres, the park covers 47 islets which spread from Laem Ngob to Klong Yai Districts. The most popular islands are Koh Chang, Koh Klum, Koh Ngam, Koh Lao Ya and Koh Rung, where travellers can enjoy many natural attractions. The most popular season for visiting the National Park is from November to March.

Salak Phet
This traditional village is located on the east coast of Koh Chang. It is popular for fresh seafood, which represents the local lifestyle. There are inexpensive boats for rent, lodgings, home stay or a number of small resorts around the bay.

Tan Mayom Waterfall This fall is of medium size. The waterfall is located 500 meters from a durian orchard, near the office. King Rama V and VI once visited here and carved their names on the highest cliff of the cascade.

Than Mayom Pier
This old pier is the location of the National Park office. There are two bungalows as well as a campsite. Apart from the beach and Than Mayom Waterfall, the area is transformed into a colourful market between August and September as it is a major pier to ship fruit to the mainland.

Top Things to Do

Hit the beach, with popular favourites being White Sand, Klong Son, Had Kai Mook and Klong Prao Beach. These coastal havens are tropical paradises with secluded areas as well as plenty of activities on offer.

Island hopping between the many islands around Koh Chang is great fun. Koh Chang alone may take a few days to explore and you can spend a day on each of the coastal towns such as Haad Sai Khao (white sandy beach) and Haad Kai Bae.

Pamper yourself in a spa. There are plenty of spas to indulge in after a hard day on the beach. Places such as the Koh Chang Grand Orchid Resort and Spa offer traditional Thai-styled buildings. The Aiyapura Resort and Spa provides massage treatments and the Aana Resort and Spa’s facilities are set among swaying coconut trees and a fine view of the Klong Prao area. At the VJ Hotel and Health Spa, treatments target long-term health while the Koh Chang Resort and Spa has facial massages and treatments, using successful traditional approaches.

Massages, beauty and body treatments can be enjoyed on the beach to soothe tired muscles. A number of massage places are also located along the main road. Other pampering services are also on offer, including hair braiding, manicures and pedicures. More extravagant treatments include foot scrubs and skin scraping, to make sure that your feet stay smooth and soft throughout your holiday.

Kick back with some wine at Koh Chang’s only wine gallery, with indoor and outdoor seating so you can sample wine from all regions of the globe. Weekly wine get-togethers are organised complete with snacks and music. You can find the wine gallery in the Kai Bae Beach area.

Fishing villages are easy and fun to visit. Spend a day getting to know the locals and playing with the kids. Maybe teach them some English although be sure to dress politely and observe basic cultural customs. This will make your visit more rewarding.

Sunsets on Koh Chang are spectacular and always look different. Have a drink in a beach café or grab a six-pack and your other half for a romantic sun downer.

Survival trips are arranged by Treehouse Bungalows and will drop you off on an uninhabited island somewhere in the Koh Chang archipelago and you then have to fend for yourself for 24 hours. Tree houses provide the basics such as water, food, shelter and fishing equipment, but after that you’re on your own.

Party animals will feel right at home on White Sands Beach and Kai Bae, which offer the best nightlife. Catering to a variety of tastes, karaoke crooners, disco dancers as well as those who like to stay glued to a bar stool with a cold glass of beer and watch the football, everyone will feel at home somewhere on the island.
