Airports
Hua Hin’s airport is located just three miles (five kilometres) north of the city. Four flights per day are operated by SGA Aero from Bangkok to Hua Hin, with a flight time of just over 30 minutes. The Hua Hin Airport is also conveniently located for tourists heading to Cha Am resorts. Flights are competitively priced in comparison to other forms of transportation.
Domestic Transport
It’s also possible to travel to Hua Hin by train or bus if you fly into Bangkok. From Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, you can travel by taxi to the Hualumphong Railway Station in Bangkok or to the city’s Southern Bus Terminal, located on the Thonburi side of the city, for onward ground transportation to Hua Hin.
Public Transport
Hua Hin can be reached by train from Bangkok, with daily express service departing Bangkok five times daily at: 14:00, 15:15, 17:05, 19:20 and 22:35. Non-express services depart Bangkok’s main rail station (Hualumphong) at several other times of day, taking longer to reach Hua Hin. Air-conditioned bus service is also available, with frequent daily departures from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal.
Once you have arrived in Hua Hin, there are several means of transport available to you. Songthaew are converted pick-up trucks that have two bench seats in the back. Drivers make their way along the main streets, stopping at the bus and train stations. You can simply flag one of these shared taxis down in the street and charter them to where you want to go.
Motorcycle taxis are also popular and can be a faster way to get around. Although there’s a bit of risk involved as the drivers can be reckless at times. Motorbike taxis can be recognised by the colourful vests worn by the drivers. If your destination isn’t on a songthaew route, this may be one of the only ways to get to your destination quickly.
Samlor (cycle rickshaws) and tuk-tuk (motorised rickshaws) are best for short distances. As with other taxi-type services, these vehicles will take you to a specific destination for a fee, which is best negotiated in advance. Hourly rates can be negotiated if you choose to use this type of transport to tour around Hua Hin.
