Tamarind Village is true village-style accommodation located smack in the center of Chiangmai's old town. Divided into three private courtyards, this rustic haven has been created to look like an ancient village giving an authentic feel of traditional ambiance.

It's such a joy to stay there we were sorry to leave. Fantastic location as far as the Sunday market is concerned. Wonderful, beautiful hotel. The staff are efficient, friendly and speak good English - a combination hard to find elsewhere. We highly recommend it and we look forward to coming back there. ...

This is hotel is an oasis in the city. It feels a bit like a monastery, but a luxurious one. The staff were very kind, attentive and hard working. Nothing was too much trouble.Excursions were arranged in the blink of an eye, as if it were all routine. The lanterns along the bamboo arch approach lane are a magical touch.

Cannot praise this hotel highly enough. Great location in the centre of the town and is a haven of tranquility and civilisation. The ambience is perfect with kind, courteous and attentive staff and the rooms are charming. Highly recommended.

Tamarind village is as laid back as the city of Chiang Mai itself. All the reception staff were very professional and very nice, restaurant staff very nice, but a bit less comprehensive. Food is great! Standard rooms are very nice, but rather dark and could be slighlty damp. I take it as our mistake that we did not draw the hotel staff attention to it, so I am not complaining. One thing I am remaining puzzled about is that I suspect the reception has some kind of a deal with the local taxi company - if a taxi is ordered through reception, you are told the price in advance. Usually, it is a double of what the meter shows.

Lovely village-style hotel. This place is really something special. You enter through an arched path of bamboo trees -- very impressive. Rooms are simple yet elegantly decorated, with touches of art and textiles from Thai Hill Tribes. Everything is beautifully detailed. The feeling throughout the hotel grounds is serene and blissful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent (although the open-air setting might be less than comfortable in the hottest season). Breakfast buffet is among the best I've had anywhere. The on-site spa is fabulous. The spa is no bargain, but I think worth the price if you consider ambience and professionalism. These are clearly expert massage therapists, trained in a variety of styles. The downside for me is the location. I prefer to stay right in the Night Market area. Still, the Night Market is a short tuk-tuk ride (or long-ish walk) away. The Old City is getting more and more developed all the time, but still this feels somewhat remote to me. But if you don't need to be right in the center of things and don't mind paying a bit more for cab fare, this hotel is fine. It's actually better than fine; it's a wonderful place just off the beaten path.

Overall, Tamarind was an excellent choice. It had the right ambience and was fairly close to center of town. The breakfast, tho repetitive, served the purpose and was tasty. 2 minor negatives: the showever couldnt stay consistently warm. The hotel provided free wireless internet; however, you had to be in the lobby or restaurant to receive the signal. I would have gladly paid a nominal fee so that I could receive the signal in the hotel room.

A wonderful retreat beautifully outfitted in lush, perfectly-kept grounds. They take great pride in their culture with daily activities to showcase it: traditional music, massage demos, alms to the monks. Only shame was our room had very little natural light making it quite dark without the lights on.

This was the best part of our holiday. The hotel was much better than expected, and had a quaint family feel to it. We just loved the room decor, and the bathroom layout, and the accesssories it provided. The food was simple and nice, though we wish there were more vegetarian options. The open restaurant by the pool provided just the right ambience for a romantic dinner. The hotel had a lovely reception area and green patches. However, being a little small, there were no sprawling garden areas. A dinner at the restaurant by the pool was an excellent way to end a tiring day. We will definitely stay here if we visit Chiang Mai again. Definitely worth visiting if on a leisure/family trip.

This hotel was lovely: beautiful and tranquil, but old-style with mature trees. I would stay here again, as the location was very convenient (it's right in the middle of the walled city). The only problem was when we asked the hotel to call us a meter-taxi to the airport, and no meter taxis were available, they decided not to tell us this and leave us sitting there. Otherwise, a very nice, quality hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay in Chaing Mai and would definitely stay at the Tamarind Village again. Despite the fact that they are doing a few renovations, there was no disruption at all, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was spotless and beautifully decorated. We highly recommend staying at this hotel.

The hotel is ideally located in the center of the city, and the service was impeccable. The landscape is beautiful and the facilities were adequate. I did think, however, that the room could use some improvement. Since the rooms have open windows, and the weather was hot and humid, it is somewhat understandable how humid the room is, but I felt the room was uncomfortably soggy. The bathroom is nicely decorated, but the sink had some tar that would stain any clothes that touch it permanently. Being a one story, village-type hotel, it's not as clean as a high-rise, sealed hotels would be, but generally I was happy with its level of cleanliness. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and the staff is courteous, I would stay here again, but probably in an upgraded room. For the money, this is about the best hotel experience you can have in Chiang Mai.

I would highly recommend the Tamarind to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. The location is excellent and the hotel makes you feel like your staying in the country rather than the middle of a big city. The best part of our two week stay was by far the staff, this was our fourth vacation to Thailand and we have never enjoyed our stay at a hotel more. Next trip to Chiang Mai will be easy, we will be staying at the Tamarind.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The location was very good, however the rooms were a bit on the small side. The disappointing part was that on checkout we were hit with a 100 Baht fee for a short transfer from the sister hotel (which was also located in the old city) after our taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong place. We were told not to worry and a car came to pick us up which we thought it was a nice gesture after we had already paid a full taxi fee from the airport. We didn't expect the hidden and quite hefty charge given the distance. Thumbs down for the lack of good will by the management!

Cute hotel with excellent location in old town of Chiang Mai under renovation. Needs a complete overhaul. Rooms are dark and without view. Breakfast was below average and small choice. All in all, still good value for money when bought over internet. I would come again after renovation.

Tamarind Village is a peaceful haven in the middle of busy Chiang Mai. The service and friendliness of the staff was excellent and the fact that it was not a high-rise hotel but rather a hotel built in the traditional style was a major attraction. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and it was truly value for money.

Beautiful experience in Chiang Mai made wonderfully special with a stay at Tamarind. Our honeymoon stay was made extra memorable with the hospitality and personalised arrangement by the friendly hotel staff.
