I found: Enough and friendly staff, security above the average,an extensive and savoury breakfast buffet, will always be refilled. The spacious lobby gave me the feeling to feel also private if I want and my spacious room helped me to feel well when I was in the hotel. The cleaning staff was very friendly, quick and efficient, a second toilet paper roll was standard. Result:A big clean hotel with very good value for the money. I stayed already in 5 other hotels in CH. Mai but booked this hotel as an alternative because others I wanted to stay in were fully booked. But from now on this will be ...

hotel is in need of some renovation. You can see that before it had more grandeur. The staf is very helpful. The breakfast was good quality, with enough to choose from, but it was the usual standard of selection, so don't expect a great 4 our 5 star breakfast. The rooms were big enough, but ask for a room one a loweer floor : we had initially a room on a high floor with nice vieuw, but no water pressure in the shower. We moved to a lower floor where the waterpressure was OK. Also check the airco, because in some rooms ( as we also heard from others) the airco did not functin that well : if you want a real cool room, it is better to check first. The swimming pool was OK : quite big, enough pool chairs, free towel ( for a second one they ask 50 Baht) and very important : the temperature of the poolwater was OK, not too warm as you see many times in hotel swimming pools. Outside there are always some taxidrivers to bring you anywere. Of course, you must negotiate the price We payed for example 700 Bahts for a 4,5 hrs. drive up to Doi Suthep. The hotel is locatd near the night market : go out from the hotel, take left and after about 250 metres turn right, where the first stalls appear. All in all I would rate this hotel as OK : price-quality is average: the big plusses are the location ( proximity to nightmarket, quiet place), the swimming pool, the friendly and helpful staff. All in all recommendable.

The ambiance of the hotel was excellent. Beautiful great lobby. Staff was more than friendly and willing to help. Big parking. The deluxe-room was large, but no separate shower in the bathroom. Standing in the tub is always slippery. The bathroom floor gets wet everytime you take a shower. The pressure of the water was too low. The room was very noisy, even from outside, we slept on the 11th floor. Breakfast was average, we expected more, because this is a 4 star hotel. close to nightmarket and restaurants.

This is an excellent hotel. We stayed there for three days in delux room - room was big and very clean. Breakfast has lot of varieties and the quality is too good. Night Bazar is just a 5 mins walk and the nearby Indian restaurant made our trip very plesant. As per 'Value For Money' - my rating is A++

We were supposed to get a double bed in a non-smoking room, but were given single beds in a non-smoking room. The staff were very helpful in finding us a room with a double bed, but it really smelled of cigarettes. The mattress was rock hard. The hotel is nicey located, right near the evening market. Beware of the doormen getting you a taxi -they obviously have something going with the non-metred taxis and they have a stock of them waiting for you, always at more than double the price of a normal taxi. Walk to the street and get a taxi or tuk-tuk on your own. The breakfast was very good, as was the lobby. The staff were friendly and helpful, but most of them had a problem with their English. The hotel was done in authentic Thai style and they paid great attention to small details. All in all, a pleasant stay, aside from the hard bed.

The Chiang Mai Plaza exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff was wonderful, offering a welcoming "sawat dii kha" at every turn. The breakfast was good with lots of variety. Our room looked at toward the mountain and treated us to beautiful sunsets. The location was perfect, right next to the night bazaar and its plentiful shops and stores. The only complaint I had was the private tour booked inside the hotel. While a good deal, our tour guide seemed to rush us through each stop, seemingly to squeeze an unplanned tour at the end so he could earn additional commission or to knock off early. In the end, we arrived two hours early back to the hotel. We were planning to book a tour each day of our stay, but as a result of this experience, we chose not to. Also, we had an early flight out (7:00am). Unfortunately, the scheduled hotel shuttle does not leave until 6:00am. It only took 10 mins to get to the airport, but it was a risk we were unwilling to take. Fortunately, the bell hop reserved a taxi for us the night before, albeit at 300 baht (vs. 65 baht from airport to hotel). Still, at $56/nite including bfast, this hotel is hard to beat.

This would have to have been the worst hotel we have stayed in, the staff were rude and the level of service poor. We requested a non smoking room (we have two small children), we were told "too busy", our reservation was made well in advance. On check out we requested a taxi but were advised we had to use their airport transfer of 120baht per person (they charge for the children who are 2/3) a total of 480baht, a taxi cost 80baht!!!!! We had to go onto the street and find a taxi. The staff were not accommodating and the breakfast buffett was awful - the hotel is cheap in price and the hotel is cheap in service. The location was ok but there are other hotels of the same price more centrally located.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is very close to the night markets (3mins) whilst being far enough away not to be in the hustle-bustle of the main city centre. The river is a short walk away with many great restaurants on the river-side offering great food. We stayed in a standard room at the hotel and it had everything we needed and was very comfortable, with a huge bed! The staff were very friendly, helpful and polite and we did not have one bad experience during our three night stay. I would stay here again for sure and highly recommend it to others.

The hotel is well located and its downstarirs lobby area is spacious and impressive. Reception were efficient but a little impersonal. Staff were busy but all arangements for check-in/check-out, extra bed etc were fine. The room was large and the beds comfortable. The bathroom, without being plush, was very good with an excellent shower. Noise when nearby bathrooms were used was noticeable. Overall, my rating would be good and we would stay there again.

We were unhappy that the hotel does not provide coffee-making facilities. The route from our rooms to the swimming pool on the second floor is poorly-lit and seemed spooky. Guests were seen smoking in the swimming pool area. We wonder if the swimming pool is also the smoking area for the hotel guests. The restaurant served a good spread of western and eastern cuisine for breakfast.

Nice Hotel, Nice lobby, Nice rooms, huge bed. Hotel wasn't too easy with accepting 2 small children in parents' room but at the end it was ok. Breakfast was nice but not a single piece of cheese. Many peeled fruits, noodles etc. Hotel charged payment for broken ashtray. Relatively good location, 10 min walk from night bazaar. Many tuk tuks waiting outside hotel to take you anywhere for a low rate. We definitely would like to return to this hotel again.

The hotel offers very good value for money, being in a good location just a few minutes walk from the night market area. The room was large and very clean, and the hotel was very beautifully decorated and the facilties were well maintained. The hotel has a large restaurant (I did not eat there), a lobby bar, and traditional thai musicians playing in the lobby every evening. The breakfast was excellent. In general, the staff were friendly and helpful, although the fromt desk was very small for such a large hotel.

Hotel is spectacular. Close to Chiang Mai night market with easy access to local transport, railway station and airport. Reception staff were not as friendly as some hotels I have used but it seems to be a charcteristic in Thailand, the better the hotel the more officious the reception staff become. Hotel lobby, restaurant, patio are stylistically lovely, faithful both to Thai tradition and to expectations of grand tourism. Hotel rooms are spacious with clean and modern bath facilities, but the upper guestrooms and corridors are in need of some interior redecorating if they are to keep up to the standards of the rest of the hotel facilities. The breakfast is first-rate--and added bonus. Though fronting a major street, rooms are quiet, since the hotel sits rather far from the street running by it. Overall, a great buy for the money with excellent access to the city and conveniently close to the airport as well.

You are well cared for in this setting. Large room, clean, nice furniture, great views. Everything is clean and works. Professional staff, excellent location, close to river, market and old walled city. This place is easily the most value I received for the price in 3 weeks in Southeast Asia. However, make travel and adventure package plans in the many fine agencies outside the hotel.

i have stayed at this hotel three times now and just love it. It is only a five minute walk to the night markets. The hotel reception area is absolutely gorgeous, the staff friendly and helpful, the restaurant excellent with live music in the evenings and if you want a good thai restaurant try The Whole Earth which is only a two minute walk away. The room is a good size but although they provide you with a jug they did not provide the tea and coffee so make sure you pack it as I couldnt find tea bags anywhere to buy. I would strongly recommend this hotel and will return there should I holiday in Chiang Mai again.

Good rate through web site makes this hotel a very good value. The 'walk in' price would be double, and they will NOT extend your stay at the booked rate, only at their own $80 rate. So, make sure to book enough nights for your entire stay, since once you are at this hotel, they will not extend your stay via any discounted rates (at any website or any travel agent!). This was confirmed by 2 different travel agents in Chiang Mai, after I tried to extend my stay there.

We enjoyed our third stay in this hotel and will probably return. While the breakfast was always very good the restaurant is only average and needs a makeover. However as there are good restaurants within walking distance this is not a major drawback. The location is perfect for the night bazaar and the river, we also enjoyed the proximity of the various markets and temples. Chiang Mai has always been a place for relaxation and recharge of our batteries and the Chiang Mai Plaza has made a large contribution to this.

We were given a room on the 3rd floor at the corner of the building and could not understand why we couldn't sleep well. After 3 nights we asked to change which they did willingly. We then went around the back of the hotel to see if anything may have been causing us to lose sleep and saw the massive electricity wires and mini-sub station. This definitely was the cause as both of us were so affected. Otherwise, good value at 18 pounds

This hotel was our (my wife and me) favorite many times when we traveled to chiang mai. last time- start in 25 november 2005- for a week long, was the big disappointing. we got a room stinking from cigarettes and with two bed. the reception told us that the hotel is fully booked and no other room is free. we think that this hotel is for groups that can get what they want and when they want and wave priority. the reception are not friendly because the hotel changed its form and has too many guests to be so. next time we will change the hotel in Chiang mai.

The hotel could be rated at least 4-star, but not at the expense of its present competitive rate and value for money. There is a bit of language problem with the operator who didn't seemed to understand my English, but the little language problem was solved when I spoke to a reception counter staff. My trip to Chiang Mai was close to the Lai Ka Tong Festival, and the hotel was booked solid for the whole season when I wanted to get an extra room. Had an opportunity to call at Suriwongse Hotel where I had failed to get a room, and found the hotel situated along one of the rows of the Night Bazaar, and equally as good and strategically located. I would recommend both hotels to intending travellers to Chiang Mai. Despite a bit of a problem to get by hotel vouchers through the net (which mistook it for a spam mail) I had finally managed to print out the vouchers 2 days before my departure.Apart from this no complain about the hotel allocated, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the site

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and it has improved from very good to excellent. The lobby area has been refurbished and is a riot of oriental splendour, but tastefully done.

I would have expected the hotel to provide complimentary coffee & tea in the room. However, this was missing. There was no kettle to boil water so everytime we needed hot water (as we brought our own 3-in-1 mixes), we have to call Room Service. Strange. Last but not least, my other peeve is that the hotel charged be US$3 per child for breakfast! In the other resort that I stayed at, breakfast for children were free! It's not the money, but how much can a child of 5 and 3 yrs eat? Overall, the hotel was nice, clean and neat. But the service could have been spruced up a little, especially when it's considered a First Class Hotel.

we did enjoy our stay in this hotel. Although we could not get the rooms in the side wing (obviously more luxurious and newer), the 2 rooms we had are considered above average. The lobby is also great with live traditional music in ensemble with the great thai antique stuffs. Location is also just perfect. What I like the most here is "Tom Yam Kung - Thai prawn soup". Everybody must try...... It's Thai food, so everybody must stand for such hot & spicy taste. In general, this hotel is very affordable and adorable place for holiday.

I found the general standard of your hotel superb in every department and the wide choice available in your buffet breakfast was hard to beat. The staff could not do enough to help or offer advice and maintained a thoroughly professional presence throughout. They are a credit to the hotel. I would not hesitate in staying at this hotel on my next visit to Chang Mai.

Since it was our second trip to Chiang Mai we were familiar with the city, so quiet central location was our main aim for picking this hotel. Well, it was a very good deal!! The hotel is fully renovated with a beautiful lobby, generous breakfast (both western and local) and well maintained rooms.

very comfortable hotel , close to night bazarr. breakfast of toast and fruit ok, other offerings not to my liking, but great price. The std room, not sig different to deluxe room, so why pay extra. laundry across the road for 60bt per kg. 100bht for taxi to airport, don' buy transfers direct from hotel, too expensive. lobby just renovated, rooms clean and pool ok. handy to the sights of chiang mai.

Excellent room size and proximity to shops and resturants, breakfast was great too. Least like will be the facilites provided by the hotel - swimming pool too plain and small not child-friendly. It would be ideal to have a childen pool and even playground for the kids since this trip was a family holiday. The restaurant service was good. The front office manager was rude but was soon replaced by a nice friendly female front desk officer that tried to meet our requests.

The stay was excellent, the hotel will certainly be on my list to visit again. The only down side was that I wanted to extend my stay by two nights, the room was available but the charge was double.

Old furnitures, staiden wallpapers and that smell of smoke :( too bad nonsmoking rooms are made just taking off the ashtray. Not professional hotel. I think this hotel could be good 3*, but not really 4* hotel. Interior in hotel is aged, but lobby is amazing. As business hotel, it was sometimes hard to get good service. Even though, everything went fine and without problems. Good choice to stay in Chiang mai. Good value for money. Short walk to night bazaar. Next time we will stay some other hotel.

We arrive in the hotel's main lobby and felt it was indeed a good choice of hotel. But we were than brought to another reception at another floor, after a long walk we finally arrive at the 2nd reception. It's then that we realise that we are staying at the older wing of the hotel. We felt cheated by he website as it didn't indicate that the price is for the older wing. We wanted to check out immediately but since it was late and we were hungry we decided to put up with it for one night. We were suppose to stay there for 1 night and come back to the hotel again for 2 nights but the thought of having to stay there is unimaginable. Luckily Hotel Travel agrees to swap us to another hotel! with just a few dollars more, we got a room at another hotel with much better room and also near tourist attractions. I feel that the hotel should not be rated across the board as 4-stars but they should have difference ratings for the 2 wings instead.

Clean, well maintained, with delux large beds to encourage restful sleep after a night in Chaing Mai! Knowledgable and friendly reception staff. 24 hour safe acces for the bargains you must have! Delicious room service that was super fast. Very central to the night Bazaar but not adversely affected by noise. The Hotel's interior design was breath taking and opulent. Staff were professional and friendly with the ambiance set by traditional mood music played by live musicians. Clean and well maintained roof top pool, with plenty of seating available in spite of the crowds. Well positioned and reasonably priced. Highly recommend it for complete R&R.

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at the Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel. We highly recommend it for excellent rooms, excellent service, and great location. We have relatives in the area and plan to always return to this hotel. The excellent breakfast buffet is a great way to start the day.

My husband and I stay at Chaing Mai Plaza Hotel during December and were thoroughly impressed. We stayed in 4 hotels during our visit to Thailand, all of which were a similar or more expensive price but Chaing Mai Plaza was by far and away the best. For what we paid were were expecting a fairly average hotel but Chaing Mai Plaza is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The reception area was immaculate, the staff were extremely courteous and the room was gorgeous. The only disadvantage for the hotel is that, because it is in such easy walking distance of the night market and many nice restaurant around there we didn't really make the most of the hotel bars and restaurants. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel and if we ever visit Chaing Mai again I would book this hotel again without question.

I like this hotel very much. It's close to the Night Market, many good Thai massage in the area, clean and quiet area. Short walk to the Night Market and the best pizza in all of Thailand located at the corner near the Night Market. This was my third stay at this hotel, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The gym is so so, less than average but the pool is great and the hotel rooms are large and clean.

The hotel is only a couple of minutes' walk from the night bazaar which we loved. There are amenities close by including a laundry, restaurants and travel agencies through which you can book excursions. The swimming pool is lovely, albeit a bit small, but very relaxing if you want a lazy day. I'd highly recommend this hotel for comfort and for its proximity to the famous bazaar.
