This was the best deal that HotelTravel has got us in many years. The Hotel was excellent as we were on the executive (Dynasty) floor where we were very well looked after. Our meal at the hotel's Chinese restaurant was memorable and certainly the best Chinese food we have ever had in Thailand. The low season prices represented outstanding value for money and we will certainly be returning next year....

I will be selecting another hotel when I next return to Chiang Mai and would find it hard to recommend to others that appreciate peace and quiet with other guests returning to their rooms at all hrs and slamming their door shut which every one on the floor can hear. paper thin doors + the lifts will drive you absolutely insane.

Located just a few moments walk from the night market, the Duangtawan is excellent value. The rooms are a good size and clean although they look a little old fashioned for such a new hotel (it was part built by one company, finished by another, then bought by Centara), but that is reflected in the price. The pool and gym are well maintained, and the staff are polite and helpful.

Our flight arrived early in the morning and we were allowed to check-in. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. We were even upgraded to a Deluxe room by a very friendly check-in staff. Our room was clean and comfortable. Although we had read many reviews by past guests about the elevators in this hotel being slow, we did not experience this, as the hotel had low occupancy. Breakfast was excellent; huge selection for both Western and Asian, however, the noodles were tasteless and far too oily. Besides the good breakfast spread, the weekend BBQ seafood was amazingly good value for money. The hotel is in a terrific location, just a couple of minutes walk to the Night Market, restaurants, Starbuck, shops and more shops. The only complaint was that the shower was slow - low water pressure. The water temperature fluctuated in great degrees. Fortunately, it was predictable, so one could move in and out of the shower to prevent scalding. I ended up every day having a bath instead of a shower, as in this room we did have a big bathtub. The bathroom was spacious. The water at the bathtub had great pressure and it did fill up quickly.

Hotel location is excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient, though not as welcoming and outgoing as in other hotels in Thailand we have stayed at.Breakfast was the only meal we took at the hotel as there are many alternatives in vicinity, and it was a typically good value Thai hotel breakfast with all tastes catered for. We stayed in a Deluxe room, which was well set out with good space. Rooms generally are getting a bit tired but still good value when tariff is considered. We will quite happily stay at this hotel when we next go to Chiang Mai - itself a great place to visit

Location, location, location. If you love shopping, you'd love this hotel. Just a stone's throw away from the Night Bazzar, it's the place to be for shopping, food, and massages!! Only complain is the conseage, where it is sometimes un-staffed, and not very helpful. Will definately go back again, just for the location!!

I read some reviews of the elevators in this hotel being slow, but my experience was pleasant - frankly I could not detect any speed difference between this and most hotels and shopping centres in Bangkok. Rooms are big and clean, and the reception made the effort to allocate my 2 rooms (connecting) before we arrived, making check-in a real breeze. Besides the good breakfast spread (mentioned in other reviews), the 250 baht Japanese & seafood dinner buffet (on a Sat) was great value for money. The gym was spacious and better equipped then the few 4* Bangkok hotels we had stayed in. Another plus point was the cheap and good massages at the basement of the hotel - prices comparable to those shops along the walking streets, and that's half the price of what we would get in Bangkok.

Too long wait for lifts during peak period. Most of the time have to walk down from the 10th floor to have breakfast. Bathroom amenities insufficient for twin occupancy only good for one person usage and bathroom always has water retention on floor after a shower no matter how careful one uses the shower.

A good hotel in every aspect with a very friendly staff - only the elevators get 1 point, they are too small for the big hotel and not connected, so in the middle floors you have hardly a chance to get down.

In great area....night market setting up across road. Pool was excellent, the reason why we choose this hotel over others...transport available across road from hotel. Room...just an average hotel room but value for money paid. We did not spend that much time in room so it suited our needs perfectly.Overall if you want hotel near night bazaar and with good pool this is the place to choose!!!

My daughter and my wife love the swimming pool most and they used to swim everyday. I do love the gym with complete equipments and weights but slightly cool. We booked 3 rooms through HotelTravel.com whose service was excellent. The service from the time we booked in until we checked out was excellent as we have come to expect anywhere in Thailand. All staff were friendly and obliging, the hotel clean, the restaurant and meals good. The hotel is well situated, only metres from the Night Market. Our visit coincided with Songkran which added to the fun - being met at the door with towels was something we hadnt expected. This is the 3rd hotel we have stayed at in Chiang Mai and having found it we keep going back. The only negative is that the elevators can be a bit slow arriving, particularly at the busy times such as check-out time. But patience is a virtue.

I visited Chiang Mai on my own and felt very safe being out late at night and returning to the Duantawan. The night market started almost outside the hotel so it was always busy. Despite this, the hotel was very quite inside. The swimming pool was big and I never had a problem finding a sunbed. The restaurants were very reasonable and cocktails were cheap, especially during 'Happy Hour,' from 6 - 8 when the drinks were '2 for 1.When I didn't have time to drink both before 8, they gave me the second when I returned to the hotel at 11pm! The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was excellent value for money and I would definitely stay there again. I would recommend it for older people on their own.

We chose the Duangtawan as we had stayed there before. But, let me explain, we, after the first stay decided not to go back there ever. It was known as the Dunagtawan then, but now it is under the Centara heading. My experience with the Centara group has so far been reliable, very much a value for money, satisfactory experience, but not this time. Firstly, like I said, we had actually vowed not to ever stay in the Duangtawan again , as we , on our first experience, found it smelly, slimy, and slow. ( the lifts were always down ) This time around, we saw new pictures on the net, and, knowing that it had just undergone a change of hand, we thought they would have improved. We decided to give it a try. We stayed in all two nights there, and boy , were we glad it was only for two nights... Never again. We definately need to find another place to stay in Chiang mai. The smell was still there, in fact worse, the showers felt like they would infect our legs as they were slimy, and to make matters worse, the lifts still felt the same, no improvements. However, the plus thing is that, the morning buffet breakfast puts many 4 star and above hotels to shame. That is very money for value. I haven't tried out the swimming pool yet, but I don't dare , it just doesn't seem like a pool I would dare jump into with the bathroom in my room being in a condition as it is as an indicator. That's like asking for trouble.Overall, not a hotel you would stay in if higienic conditions are a must for you.

The location is excellent and the night bazaar is just seconds away from the hotel within walking distance. We did not find any delay waiting for the lifts (as compared to some previous reviews). The rooms are clean but the carpets are slighly worn out and dusty. We requested for cleaning to be done and the response is quite immediate. This place is an incredible bargain. First, it's right in the middle of the Night Market area and surrounded by restaurants, shops, and internet cafes. Also, the unoffical "taxis" -- regular cars with drivers -- hang out in front of this hotel, so it's easy to hire a car and driver for the day at a reasonable rate, although you have to bargain. (This is usually far less expensive than the limo services offered at most hotels.) The rooms are large (with, oddly, very little furniture to fill them), the bathrooms excellent (great bathtubs in particular), and everything is shiney and new. The decor is generic, however, which is a disappointment given the rich culture of the area. There is a massive marble grand stairway in the entrance hall of the hotel, which I think is somewhat ridiculous -- some Thai designer's idea of what Westerners like, I guess. But at these prices, I'd expect a crummy little guesthouse, so this misplaced grandeur is sort of a welcome site. The breakfast is okay, not great, but also presented in a grand setting. I would not recommend the restaurants at this hotel, but there are plenty of excellent places to eat not far away. Also, I had a Thai massage at the spa here, and it was the worst massage I've ever had in Thailand. But, again, there are many other massage options right outside your front door. As other reviewers have mentioned, the elevators are quite slow, which can be frustrating, but that's not really signifiicant. The staff is not particularly

The hotel elevator was slow. The deluxe room was worth the price because it was excellent. The bathroom is spacious and the bed was comfortable. We had a good view of the main street that overlook the Night Bazaar and The Imping Hotel. There was many selection for breakfast. But overall the hotel is excellent.

I loved the central location. the staff were very helpful and obliging. The fact we would have the use of the showers after we got back from our 2 day 1 night mountain trek after we had departed the hotel (but left our luggage stored there) was wonderful.

Excellent staff and service. Location is spot on. Two things to be aware of are - 1. The lifts take ages to arrive and generally stop at most floors where no one gets in - probably because they are not linked and people press all buttons to get a lift. 2. The breakfast is plentiful, but lids are off the food and it is generally barely warm if not cold. Go the omlette as it is cooked fresh and is always hot. I would stay there again. What more can I say!

Nice first class hotel located next to the night market in Chiang Mai. Delux rooms are well done with nice view of the city. The property handles a lot of groups, and suffers slightly at times from the fact that it has only two relatively small elevators (lifts) for a high-rise property Certainly a good value for the money.

Overall, a clean, convenient to public transportation and just next to the happening Night Bazaar, comfortable and a safe hotel which is value for money. Staff are quite helpful and a great variety of food during breakfast. However, the rooms noise insulation is not that good.

Rooms are clean and tastefully finished. Excellent location with friendly staff. Situated in the midst of the" happenning", like shopping areas, eateries and other leisure outlets. No noticeable noise disturbance despite being in the middle of the city. Real value for money.

We have had a good time in the hotel. The kids liked the pool! Breakfast was fine. Our room was basic but big enough and the kids enjoyed watching Disney Channel. Everything you need is in or near the hotel. Only one thing, for a massage you better leave the hotel because it's not that good!

Nice room layout with sufficient compliment drink. Room are well clean and clean towel are given. No hot water facilities for tea/coffee in the superior room, have to call for room service. Room service is bad as the response is slow and have to make a call again to remind them. Fitness room facility is good as equipment are well maintained. Staff at Tawan coffeeshop are friendly. Near to night market and have to do a walking distance to pub/disco/spa.

Fabulous location near the Night Market. However, I found the rooms very tired and in need of refurbishment. The curtains were drab and ill-fitting and the mattresses worn. The carpets also pretty worn. With a revamp, this could be one of the best hotels in Chiang Mai. At the moment it is not worthy of the Central Group name. Best the owners put some money into redoing it soon.

Very crowded three Star Hotel. You will wait for a long time to get the elevator which stopped in my case between floors. The service at the restaurants is very poor where the tables are left dirty for long before they attend to clean them. I booked a room at the none smoking floor which I couldn't use since it smelled auwful because of the cigarettes smell. The rooms are avarage in size with old style furniture. Yet you can hear the noise of other rooms toilets flushing loud and clear all the time which may wake you up. You will get a one hour vouchor to use internet wirelessl (if you have a supporting laptop) for every day you stay there. The vouchor contains a unique user name and password which will expire before you even use it and you will need to convince them that you haven't used your vouchor time or pay 180 baht for a new vouchor. The hotel has a nice location close to the night bazaar, Pantip IT mall and some different restaurants. Simply, don't expect much.

This hotel is very very dirty. The bathrooms are disgusting, moldy and dirty. The rooms are dirty, the carpets are stained, so are all the curtains. I would never stay there again and I'm upset that I paid so much to stay there.

Our flight arrived quite early in the morning and we appreciate very much that the reception allowed us to check-in about 10.00am instead of 2.00pm the check-in time. The service staff there are all very helpful, really made us feel homely. Really a relaxing holiday in Central Duangtawan.

It is hard to imagine this hotel belongs to the central hotels group having stayed last year at the central Samuei hotel which was excellent in all respects. The shower tap did not work when we checked in,no maintence checks before allocating rooms,Poor management,Nearly missed our flight at checkout because concierge took over an hour to bring down the bags as he could not enter the room as housekeeping had gone for lunch with no one in attendence.Very slow lifts one spends a minimum of 20 mins to catch a lift up or down,Very poor management and control and not to be recommended to anyone. I'll rather camp out than stay there if there were no other hotels with available rooms. Would try the Sheraton next time which I visited and seemed to be well organised.

Our family enjoyed the convenient location to the Night Bazaar and the many restaurants. The swimming pool and fitness center were frequently used by us and were wonderful. The only downside to this hotel were the elevators - even staying on the 16th floor, we chose many times to take the stairs.

Stay with this hotel was ok but was somewhat disappointed with the room. Suppose to have wireless internet available and with the room I was given it was not. After staying my reserved time I moved from this hotel to another close by.
