Cha Am has remained quiet and unpopular with partying beachgoers, but it is this distinct absence of tourism and all its frills and action that makes Cha Am so charming. You won't find rows of bars or a night market, but Cha Am does sport a nice clean beach, clear waters and enough amenities to have a great holiday.
This small beach town 18 kilometres north of Cha Am is known throughout Thailand for its statues situated right in the sea depicting various characters from the stories of one of Thailand's most famous poets, Sunthon Phu. He wrote the epic poem 'Phra Aphai Mani' in the early 1800s and remains very popular among Thais. Locals come here to picnic, swim, ride horses and hang out, giving it a real Thai feel.
This summer palace in Petchaburi was built by King Rama IV in 1858 on a striking hill overlooking the city and the sea. Its unique architecture mixes elements from Thai, Chinese and European styles, giving it a unique look and feel. Antiques and period art can be viewed in the Phra Thinang Phetphum Phairot Hall. You can get to the hilltop palace by walking a four-kilometre path or by taking a funicular railway. Phone: +66 3242 8539
The nearest airport to Cha Am is in Hua Hin, which has its own small domestic airport servicing daily flights from Thai budget carrier, Nok Air. Although flight schedules change often to tiny destinations like Hua Hin, Nok Air normally operates three flights daily on a 12-seat Cessna caravan 208. The flight takes less than an hour to go from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport to Hua Hin.
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months prior to entering Thailand. Citizens from 41 countries can get a free visa upon arrival for a stay of up to 30 days. A 60-day tourist visa can be prearranged at Thai consulates for a fee. Be sure not to overstay your visa, however, because the fine is steep and may jeopardise your ability to obtain future visas.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
