Been there last year also, and I have found that it's not as good as it was. We used to have breakfast beside the pool instead of inside, now they have reduced the place to only the inside coffee shop which is not big enough for all to eat. One must wait for a table. Dinner there was slow and the food was not as asked for.Room service was awful, they could not get the order correct, and after three phone calls they tell me they are out of beverages, and I was only asking for a soda.The positive part of this hotel is the location and the comfortable rooms.

I have stayed at The First Hotel many, many times before. It's almost always my first stop when I come to Thailand. I take the time there to get over jet lag, relax, and become oriented once again with the exotic city of Bangkok. The buffet breakfast is outstanding, and the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. It's also a great place to start shopping in Thailand as the biggest shopping area for clothes is only blocks away. Highly recommended.

I asked for a double bed and non smoking. I received neither. Staff were not helpful when I complained.The 2 rooms I was shown were very grubby, bedsheets stained and grey, bathroom leaks and peeling wallpaper, dirty carpets.Too many Indians staying I think. When I asked for overstay of check out, they agreed on 1400, very good.

The hotel is nothing like it is described on it's own website. The hotel has very out-dated decor and sub-standard facilities. The staff are unfriendly and struggle to understand basic questions in English. The rooms were dirty and the beds and bedding were infested with bed bugs which meant we left the hotel with severe bites all over our bodies requiring medical attention. The cleaning staff were more professional and courteous than the main customer service staff at reception. Check in took more than 30 minutes. The rooms were not as described or promised and there is an odd smell that permeates through the entire hotel. It is only a three star hotel however the service and accommodations provided were not up to the standard of a basic three star establishment. I would struggle to recommend this hotel as the health issues relating to cleanliness and the bed bugs coupled with the service provided by the staff meant we had a less than pleasant stay. I would not stay there again unfortunately.

The only good thing about it was the location. The beds were visited by bed bugs every nite we were there. We stayed for 3 nites and had to change room every nite as the bugs were biting us..thus..no restful sleep for 3 nites..a real nightmare. If you are brave enough to face the bugs, then its a place to consider stayng. Its our first stay and will be our last!!!

The bathroom sink was almost completely clogged and required clearing. The floor was covered with worn indoor-outdoor carpeting. Our room had twin beds, both of which had well-worn mattresses. Neither box spring was sheet-covered. One box spring had mysterious brown splatter stains near its edge. I wondered how the hidden edges of the box-spring looked. My over-all rating for our stay is: "barely tolerable".

Awful service, very old, smelly and uncomfortable rooms. I have paid for the top of the range rooms thinking that I will get a good room but I was wrong. The hotel is old, smelly, overpriced, boring, and you may be waiting for more than two hours for the houskeeping to bring you fresh towels. If I have to do it all over again, I will probably go for trustworthy hotel chain. Staying there has spoiled my mood and my desire to be in Bangkok.

I will not stay at this hotel again. The only good thing about the hotel is the location. The staff at the front desk were rude and no help when my watch went "missing" from our room. We have stayed at other hotels in bangkok that have been cheaper and a lot better.

Overall the rooms are quite run down. There are black stains on toilet wall tiles. On the day of checkin out, 1 lift broke down and we have to carry our luggages all the way down from 6th floor using the staircase.

Room (429) was good, with a sitting and bedroom area. However, the TV was in the bedroom! The washbasin was partially blocked and leaked over the bathroom floor and there was no view from the window. We do appreciate that they would not offer the best rooms at these prices and it was comfortable and clean. Breakfast, however, was of the cold fried egg variety (again!). We would stay there again, with no great expectations.
