"This is an excellent hotel and I have stayed at it 3 times. It is not walking distance to many places (exception is Martyr's Monument), but city bus comes to the door, and you can go to/from airport by city bus. Taxis are cheap in Taipei, so that covers potential inconvenience. Concierge is great, with lots of helpful suggestions. The economy rooms are small, but impeccably clean and well outfitted. Restaurants have good selection, and food is well prepared. The lobby alone is worth half of the price. But in addition, there are several tourist shops - it is not necessary to leave the hotel to buy tourist trinkets. I feel comfortable leaving my suitcases with the bell captain (which I have done several times.) It gives me a good feeling to stay at the Grand Hotel, and I will again on next trip."
