Excellent location just at the edge of the City area. Far away from the expensive shopping areas yet close enough to travel by taxi (10 mins) to visit them. Best deal is the cost of the rooms compared to other hotels. A definate A-grading for me in terms of value for money....

Hi, my name is Tan Cheng Sun. My recent stay at Empress Hotel, Taipei was from 20 Jun to 25 Jun 09. Empress Hotel was generally fine in terms of cleanliness and amiable staff. Breakfast however was the same each day.
Credit should go to HotelTravel in their expert handling of my bookings and the marvelous chatline which really was an excellent mode of real time communication.

Hotel was quite pleasant. Noise level was very quiet and all questions were answered promptly. Breakfast was to be served from 7:00 until 10:00 but at 8:50, food was very sparse, coffee luke warm and not replenished. Suggest that the breakfast foods be rationed to be continuously provided until the end of the breakfast period. Putting it all out at once, allows early risers to ignore the fact that other guest may be wanting to eat as well!

The hotel is unpretentious yet very clean and well presented. An excellent value for money. Breakfast was mainly oriental but scrambled eggs and toast were available. Metro service nearby cleanly and efficiently connects you to the rest of the sprawling city. Be sure to have a map or directions in Taiwanese to help taxi drivers locate the hotel. The facilities are principally lobby and rooms. Go there to sleep; play elsewhere.

The Empress Hotel was a very pleasant surprise in terms of value! We were on a long layover in Taipei and wanted to see the city and found very reasonable rates at the Empress Hotel. The room was very nice, much more than we were expecting. The included breakfast as more than adequate. All in all, I would definitely stay at the Empress again.

Quiet and clean every day. Breakfast was good if eaten around or before 9 AM. Staff always avaiable at front desk and their english was sufficient. Wake up call and taxi service was good.
I was disappointed that i could only get 1 key.

This hotel is OK for short stay. The rooms are large, everything is adequate, except the breakfast are and the food. The location is good for visitors, though the cab drivers had a hard time finding it without a hotel card.Overall it's a good budget hotel.

Comfortable, clean, quiet room - good size and good bathroom. Very good location and very helpful friendly staff. Downside was cigarette smoke entered the room from the corridor when the air conditioning was off in the room and the breakfast was small and there was no choice. Buses, metro and taxis all within easy reach. We caught a bus (#260) out to the mountainous volcanic national park just around the corner - great trip and at minor cost.

The Empress is good value for the money. 15 minute walk to MRT subway so getting around is not a problem. Like many smaller hotels in Taipei it is unknown to taxi drivers so it's very difficult to find the FIRST time (write hotel name and address in Chinese). I would stay here again.
