Zurich, known as the Cultural Capital of Switzerland, is home to many old churches, including the Charlemagne-era Fraumünster (Our Lady’s Minster), and museums, such as the Museum Bärengasse, which explains the history of the city in the 1600s.

Zurich has a generous amount of hotels, ranging from no-frills boarding houses to some of the most celebrated and luxurious hotels that Europe has to offer. There are two main areas for accommodation in the city centre: the left bank of the river is popular thanks to its close proximity to the rail station and many of the city’s best shops and restaurants, while the old town area of the right bank is considered to have more atmosphere. Although Zurich has over 120 hotels, rooms can still be hard to find during the peak times of the year so you are advised to book in advance.

Zurich is a city with a long and historic past, which offers a wide array of sights and attractions that ideally require several days to fully appreciate. The city is relatively small and compact, making it an ideal destination to explore on foot; however, much of the city is built around hilly terrain, so remember to pack a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
The transport system in Switzerland is generally regarded as the best in Europe and possibly one of the best in the world, with an extensive rail and bus system that not only runs on time, but also reaches every corner of the country.
