Being positioned in the southwestern of Switzerland and not having its own airport, Zermatt is best accessed by air via either the Zurich International Airport or the Geneva Cointrin International Airport—both situated approximately 240 kilometres away.

From either airport there are rail connections to all the way to Zermatt’s town centre. Train journeys take approximately four hours from Geneva and five hours from Zurich. Alternative modes of transport include renting a car or using the helicopter service, which is available at a premium price.

Both Geneva Cointrin and Zurich international airports have an array of modern facilities and services available for passengers. There are numerous car-rental offices onsite, train stations and booking services. The airports have a wide choice of restaurants as well as some close by hotels for travellers needing to spend the night.

The city of Zermatt is well connected by road and rail to other parts of Switzerland as well as to Italy and France, with scenic links passing through the picturesque terrain. Cars are only allowed to travel as far as Tasch, which is just five minutes away, as Zermatt is a car-free city. Around 4,000 car parking spaces are available in Tasch and electric taxis coupled with a shuttle-train service take visitors to town.

In town there is an abundance of electric-powered taxis to usher you from place to place as well as beautiful and traditional horse-drawn sleighs. With the town being relatively small and contained, it is easy to walk anywhere.
