Interlaken actually has its own airport right in the city centre, although Bern-Belp is the nearest international airport to Interlaken. Flights here are minimal when compared with Zürich International Airport and Geneva-Cointrin Airport, however, which are about equidistant from Interlaken. Facilities at all international airports are excellent.

There are two trains per hour to Interlaken from Zürich Airport, taking around two hours to get to Interlaken, and trains also run from Geneva-Cointrin in about the same time period. Hiring a car from any of these airports is also a possibility, with good roads to Interlaken – Bern has the most direct route.

Interlaken is very compact and easily got about on foot while the Jungfrau Region cable car provides direct access to the winter sports grounds. For travel farther afield, buses are convenient and comfortable and link all satellite towns and villages, while trains also serve much of the region from Interlaken’s two main stations, East and West. The bus station is located at Areckstrasse 6.

Taxis are also on hand and can be found at either train station, the bus station and outside most hotels, while bicycle hire within the city is also popular. The excellent condition of the roads and mass of sights around Interlaken lead many people to book a hire car and do a pick up at one of the airports via online booking).

A Visitor's Card, available from your hotel, allows you to travel around Interlaken for free as well as provide discounts to many attractions. There are also discount travel passes available for the whole of the Bernese region and the Jungrau region.
