Geneva is best visited in July and August when the weather is mostly good, although be prepared for throngs of tourists and expensive and often fully-booked accommodation. With this in mind, the slightly cooler months of June and September are not as busy and hotel room rates are significantly cheaper; however, unsettling weather can occur in September.
Geneva Motor Show: held at the Palexpo Exhibition Centre in early March for eight days, the Geneva Motor Show is Europe’s largest international show and features brand new concepts and innovations including exhibitions from most the world’s car manufacturers.
Lake Geneva and the River Rhone are the lifeblood of Geneva and the city's main focus. The lake offers plenty of opportunity for recreation, with lake cruises, sailing and waterskiing enjoyed year-round.
There is no metro system in Geneva, but the town's small size and good bus coverage ensure it is easy to get around. If you are thinking of travelling around the lake or anywhere else in Europe, the central train station (Gare Cornavin) is a modern facility with numerous daily arrivals and departures. Gare Eaux-Vives train station, just outside Geneva, offers connections to regional French destinations.
European Union citizens may enter Switzerland for up to 90 days on production of a national identity card or passport. North American, Australian and New Zealand citizens can also enter Switzerland for up to 90 days on production of a passport. Other nationalities should consult a Swiss embassy or consulate in their country of residence regarding visa requirements prior to travelling to Switzerland.
