The major gateway to Sweden’s Oresund region and the means by which most international visitors arrive at the city, Malmo-Sturup International Airport is a modern aviation facility located 30 kilometres southeast of downtown Malmo. It’s Sweden’s third biggest airport and maintains connections with a large number of EU cities and major international destinations also.
The airport offers a good selection of facilities including ATMs, bureaux de change, shops, restaurants and car hire desks. To get to the city from the airport, passengers can make use of airport coaches that operate regularly throughout the day and make the journey between the two in around 45 minutes. Taxis are also available and can be hired from outside of the airport Arrivals area.

Malmo is easily reached by road from other parts of the country. The drive form Stockholm takes five to six hours by car, while the journey from Gothenburg can be done in about three. By train, the city can be reached from Stockholm in four hours and from Copenhagen in just 35 minutes. From Travemünde in Germany, there are ferry crossings to Malmo provided by Finnlines.
Once in the city, visitors can get around by using the Skanetrafiken public bus services. The network is extensive and covers the whole of the city centre and suburban areas also. An electronic card that can be credited with anything from SEK 200 upwards is available and provides users with discounts of 20% against the regular cash fare. Taxis are widely available in the city and operate on a metered fare system; prices are fairly reasonable by European standards.
