Once one of Sweden’s most important and populous cities, storied Kalmar is home to the 300-year-old Kalmar Cathedral and Kalmar Castle. The sea surrounds much of Kalmar, and the town has many walkways alongside waterways. Kvarnholmen, the historic city centre that has been made into a shopping paradise, has all kinds of shops selling funky fashions. Elsewhere in town you will find everything from popular chains to hip boutiques. There are many cafés and beaches nearby that are worth visiting.
