Amazing location and architecture. A highlight of the trip was staying here. Hazel Ironside, United Kingdom
Staff were very professional and helpful at all times. The selection of food at breakfast and the evening meal was good. The setting is, of course, beautiful but we had our own car and driver and we needed to stay longer in order to fully explore it. The room was a good size and provided everything we wanted. Overall we were very pleased and would certainly go back. Jaya Kumar, India
I like the look and feel of this resort; its so artistically built and so vast in size and shape, its just mind boggling; we simply enjoyed staying in this hotel, its the third time we are staying in this place, we are still not bored of it yet :-) A HotelTravel.com Member, United Kingdom
My wife and I were disappointed with the Kandalama Hotel. From it's reputation, we expected more. The hotel may have been a great concept back in the mid 90s, and no doubt furnished and managed as a 5 star hotel then, but I'm afraid not any more. The hotel is in need of refurbishment, and many facilities, particularly the pool, are in need of attention. Food and service average. As an 'eco' hotel, I know one shouldn't expect extravagant luxury, but as a 5 star hotel, it should use any money saved by not providing luxury, to bring nature closer to the guest. (plants around the place, imaginative art, educational information about the surrounding flora/forna, perhaps even scheduled lectures). Instead, there were just endless empty corridors, and a general 'spartan' feel about the place, which means we won't be going back. Michael Jobbins, United Kingdom
This Hotel is unique and tasteful with many very pleasant staff. Breakfast was very good and the free gifts left in the room a nice touch. The England cricket team were also staying at the Hotel which was a real bonus for us. Only downside the long drive on a dirt track to reach the Hotel. A HotelTravel.com Member, United Kingdom
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, beautiful views. I liked the power conservation function of the room key which switched off electricity when no one was in the room. Friendly waiter who opened the restaurant for me and stayed to chat.
Varied and excellent quality of food. infinity pool beautiful. For those wanting tranquil surroundings. I came with a driver so getting around wasn't a problem.
Came with a driver.

It was a fantastic experience to stay at this amazing hotel built by the pioneer of contempory Sri Lankan architecture. The hotel is a stunning piece of architecture which offers the best comfort and facilities in hotel accomodation. It is very reasonably priced when compared to Australian hotels but is regarded as expensive by Sri Lankans. However its stunning location and environmental aspect makes it 'must' place to stay when visiting sites in the Cultural Triangle. Excellent buffet food available. Due to its isolation from Dambulla I don't think its accessable by public transport but privately hired drivers are accomodated free.
Quality of bedroom, bathroom and linen. TV available. Its possible to have a really close contact with monkeys from behind the glass doors. Easy access for luggage.
Very good reception. Excellent dining facilities and the quality of the international food available. Good clean and safe swimming pool. Staff always prompt and courteous. It caters for the wide ranging tastes of different tourists and provides interesting local cuisine. I enjoyed the informal welcome registration and fruit drink. Pool area safe and clean, with pool attendant. Pool excitingly well designed. Exciting roof garden and hanging plants over the balconies. It provided excellent environmental concerns. The hotel is excellently sited but it is remote from the local town and not accessable by public transport. The eroad is rough.

Beautifully designed environmentally-biased hotel which blends into the hill side over looking a vast landscape and tank. Fantastic rooms with a shower with a view. We arrived and had a dip in the infinity pool in the early evening watching an electrical storm in the distance to the sounds of birds, crickets and monkeys. A hidden gem in Dambulla.
