Colombo, although no longer the political and administrative capital of Sri Lanka, is the country's economic centre. It is the island nation's largest city and its main port. Located on this small country's south-western coast, Colombo spreads out over the plains that border the sea, stretching along the coast for miles on its western side.
This park is a hit with kids, but is also great fun for the whole family. Highlights here include the 4D Thriller ride and a number of laser games. The 4D ride is actually a four-dimensional movie that places you in the midst of the action with police and laser guns. There's good food to be had at the KEG Restaurant, DJs playing great music and beer for adults. Phone: +94 115 555996.
Medin Full-moon Poya Day: the Buddhist calendar features 12 poyas, public holidays that fall on the day of the full moon. This poya commemorates the Buddha’s return to his home to preach to his father and family, revealing to them the path to enlightenment. This is a day for engaging in mediation, religious study and merit making.
Colombo's busiest market place is located in one of the oldest districts of the city, and is usually high on visitor's lists of places to see. The area surrounding the market is ethnically diverse, lending to the variety of goods, handicrafts and souvenirs that you'll find at the market. Items on offer here range from Ayurvedic medicines to jewellery. You'll also come across a number of religious structures, the Dutch Period Museum and many stalls offering tasty local food.
Making your way around Colombo by public transport is straightforward, as both auto-rickshaws and taxis can be found at most intersections. For trips outside the city, there's an extensive bus network connecting Colombo with the rest of the country and a less extensive rail network that links major points around the island.
