Galle Face Hotel iremains our favourite hotel WORLDWIDE because it has not been seriously upgraded and modernised, and it is this very fact combined with the wonderful employees that gives it an ambience like no other. It remains a little bit of the 19th and 20th century yet is modern where it needs to be.......

We both loved the situation and history of this hotel together with the quite individual style of the place. being so close to the ocean was wonderful. Food was good The room although huge was not the best as there were noisy renovations going on next door. There was no view and the furniture was a bit 'tired' and old.

Lovely hotel - lots of atmosphere and character. Good sized pool. Clean rooms. Service a little slow. Food excellent. Beach front - so lovely views for eating, drinking and relaxing on the verandah. Only downside really is the area - high levels of security (understandably) and rather unattractive once you leave the hotel.

We stayed in the old part of the hotel. The room was huge, but it was located right above a banquet room. We heard lots of music from the numerous weddings that took place at the hotel on a daily basis. Since we were in the old part we had poor lighting and plumbing. But the hotel staff were amazing from the moment they met us at the airport so that made up for any deficiencies in the room! They were so kind and helpful to us at all times. The location of the hotel is stunning and the pool and restaurants were great. I'd love to go back (especially when the spa opens). The old part of the hotel is not for everyone, but for us it was terrific value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Historical building with its excellent sea view has made more attractive by friendly, yet professional, hospitality. The stay was memorable.

We only stayed at this hotel for one night, but wished we had stayed longer. Our room was very comfortable and the food was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We are definitely planning on returning to this hotel.

A lot of raj atmosphere. Excellent staff and service. Rooms need to be brougth up to date in terms of maintenance, but it has to be done without losing the excelent colonial athmosphere. Not an easy task for an interior designer since the hard work done by the staff to maintaine traditions of service, may easily be neglected in the process and that is in fact the core competency of Galle Face Hotel.

This was our first stay at the Galle Face Hotel. We had a deluxe room overlooking Galle Face Green and a side view of the sea. The bedroom was vast, in the Old Wing on the second floor. We had a v comfortable king size bed and excelent AC. The bathroom was fine but quite old fashioned. It is an old hotel with so much history, eldery staff and very good food. English style cooking. All very colonial, high tea in the afternoon on the verandah. We loved it and will definitely reurn, but is is different and I would imagine might not be contemporary enough for some people. We loved the building and history. We also looked at the new Regency wing. The rooms overlooking the sea were beautiful with terraces, but some of the south facing rooms had no view. The side north facing rooms would have good sea views. We swam in the new pool and lay on loungers on the sea edge with wonderful view. We were there for New Years Eve.
