Located on Spain’s Costa del Sol, Torremolinos is a hub of tourist activity. It is popular with European holidaymakers, especially the British, although up until the 1950s it was a small fishing village. In the last 20 years, the city has seen a great deal of development and is now home to high-rise hotels, an abundance of restaurants, bars and a number of manmade attractions.

Most of the city’s attractions are based on and around the beach. There are beautiful promenades, white sandy beaches and seaside restaurants, and a host of water sports, shopping plazas and quaint cafés on offer. However, if you feel like you want to learn about local culture, a trip to nearby La Carihuela should not be missed. This old fishing village allows visitors to see what Torremolinos was like 50 years ago.

Shopping options are plentiful with the pedestrianised Calle San Miguel offering local markets, chic boutiques, souvenir shops and a wide range of local eateries. If the kids get bored with shopping, take them to one of the nearby theme parks which include the region’s largest water park, Aqualand.
If you want to get out and about, a good option is to hire a car and travel to nearby Malaga. Here you will find a number of museums, palaces and other historic sights, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful.
As most of Torremolinos’s economy is driven by tourism, there is a wide variety of accommodation on offer. Many hotels are four or five star, although there are cheaper options available if you are on a budget. It is always adviseable to book your accommodation in advance online, especially if you are travelling during the peak summer months.

Most people fly into nearby Malaga Airport, although it is possible to arrive overland by train or bus. Once in Torremolinos, most people either walk around the town or hire a car. The city is connected by many of the country’s main roads, ensuring easy travel to and from other domestic destinations.

Torremolinos is located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Mijas mountains, and is renowned for its year-round mild climate. The sun shines approximately 90 per cent of the year which in part is what has led to the city becoming a magnet for European holidaymakers all year round.
In total, there are on average 320 days of sunshine every year with an annual average temperature of 22°C. Summer temperatures rarely get below 30°C while winter temperatures are usually about 19 or 20°C. It is the ideal place to escape a cold winter and is extremely busy around Christmas. Other peak times are the European summer holiday from June through early September.
