Salamanca Hotels by HotelTravel.com
The city of Salamanca is located in western Spain, on a plateau by the Tormes River. It is regarded as one of the most fascinating Renaissance cities on the European continent. Its ancient sandstone buildings have been honed by the centuries into a golden glow, hence its nickname is La Ciudad Dorada, or the 'Golden City'. The old parts of the city have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and contains many beautiful buildings and cathedrals, as well as the iconic University of Salamanca. The university numbers Christopher Columbus and Hernan Cortez amongst its attendees. Today travellers can enjoy great dining, shopping and nightlife in one of the world's most historic old cities.
