Malaga International Airport is the chief gateway to the city and also one of the main hubs for the Costa del Sol region. It’s a busy facility that serves over 12 million passengers per year and maintains connections with a large number of UK cities as well as major cities across the EU.

The two-terminal facility lies approximately eight kilometres southwest of the city centre and offers a good selection of passenger services and amenities. ATMs and currency exchange desks can be found in both terminals, while a bank is on hand in Terminal 2. Between terminals 1 and 2 visitors will find three VIP lounges plus a variety of shops and restaurants both land and airside.

Transfers to the city can be made by public bus number 19, which runs every 30 minutes during the day from a stop situated outside the International Arrivals area. Alternatively, a tourist shuttle bus, leaving on the hour and half past the hour, connects the airport with the city centre. The fastest option for the reaching the city, however, is to take the train from the station located opposite Terminal 2. Taxis are also available from stands outside both terminals’ Arrivals areas.
The city can be reached by car from other Costa del Sol destinations with relative ease, with the E-15 and the N-340 motorways providing the main routes. Buses and trains to the city are also frequent from other major cities in the region.

Malaga city centre can be covered on foot; however, the city’s buses and trains are on hand should you wish to travel beyond the downtown area. The bus network, which is operated by EMT, is the more extensive and provides regular air-conditioned services to most parts of the city. Tickets valid for up to 10 journeys or for a 24-hour period can be bought from newsagents.

Trains run from the city along the coast travelling to Fuengirola via Torremolinos and Marbella. Taxis are available, are white in colour and display a green light on top when available for hire. Taxis fares are cheap in comparison with many other EU cities.
