Airports

Lanzarote International Airport handles an impressive annual throughput (five million) at its single terminal. Flights here connect to other islands in the archipelago, mainland Spain and other destinations in Western Europe. Major airlines include AirEuropa, Aer Lingus, Jet2, Spanair and easyJet.

The airport is situated just 4.8 kilometres outside of Arrecife. Onsite facilities include an array of restaurants and shopping outlets, ATMs and currency exchange facilities. A recent addition to the airport is an aviation heritage museum which opened in 2002.

Buses from outside of the Arrivals hall depart twice an hour for the Arrecife Bus Station, where onward transportation across the island can be arranged. Keep in mind that these buses do not operate on Sundays, when only taxis are available. Hire car agencies are also represented at the airport for those who wish to self-drive.

Public Transport

It is also possible to reach Lanzarote via ferry from neighbouring Fuerteventura. There are several daily ferries travelling this route, and the one-way journey takes just over half an hour. This is the only way to arrive at the island of Lanzarote other than by air.

Once on the ground, public transportation consists primarily of buses and taxis. Local buses (guaguas) travel between villages on the island. Tourists may wish to invest in a bus pass, which provides substantial discounts when taking multiple journeys. Across the board, a hire car is a worthwhile investment for those wishing to plan their own itineraries.
