Information & History of Korean Grand Prix

Information
Similar to the Valencia Street Circuit and Albert Park in Melbourne, Korea is aiming to combine temporary and permanent components to create the Korean International Circuit. Formula 1 cars will streak by the waterfront of Yeongam County, where spectators can take in the action from boats, the promenade and surrounding buildings. Hermann Tilke is responsible for layout design and use of available space. When complete, the entire complex is said to have a capacity of 135,000 spectators.

History
Finalising the Korean Grand Prix’s place in the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship was a race against time. Construction began towards the end of 2009 and publicly the race meeting seemed to be an official part of the calendar despite not appearing on any provisional lists. Speculation was rife even as the opening rounds of 2010 passed by but circuit officials continued to state that the Korean Grand Prix was never in doubt. Plans are in place to separate the Korean Grand Prix from other races after criticism had been heard over the uniform blandness of modern racing venues.
