Busan’s Kimhae (Gimhae) International Airport is the 19th largest airport in Asia and in the Pacific. Several Asia-based airlines fly into Busan as well as Russian and U.S. carriers. The domestic terminal is also at Kimhae, with flights to other cities within South Korea and Jeju island.
An airport limousine bus service runs from Kimhae Airport to major hotels in Busan, leaving the airport every 20 minutes. The journey takes about one hour.
From Busan Port Harbor you can catch a ferry to a number of domestic destinations. Taking a boat to Yeosu through the Hallyeohaesang National Park, bestows views of spectacular scenery along Korea's south coast. You can also get international passage to Japan and China.
Busan offers three types of discount transportation and tour cards. They work by paying a lump sum for the card and using it to get around the city or at various attractions. Any unused remaining balance is refunded when you are finished.
Busan Tour Pass can be used to pay for the subway, bus, highway tolls and to buy merchandise. It can also be used at tourist areas such as parks and museums. It can be used extensively at the Children's Grand Park, Busan Metropolitan Art Museum, Busan Museum, Chungneyol Shrine, Busan Aquarium, Mt. Yongdu Park, Beomeo Temple, Taejongdae, hotels, City Tour Bus, Airport Limousine Bus, General Bus and Subway. It is issued at the Bus Terminal or Subway Ticket Office and Busan Bank.
The Hanaro Transportation Card gives discounts on the subway, bus, and a variety of vendors throughout the city. It is issued at the main Busan Bus Stop, Subway Ticket Office, and Busan Bank.
Mybi card is all-round electronic card as it can be used for transportation (subway, intra-city bus, village bus, toll for paid road, toll for tunnel), e-business, internet shopping, etc.
Busan’s clean and extensive subway system makes it possible to go just about anywhere. There are two lines, easily travelled given their distinct colours. Destination announcements are made in both English and Korean.
Busan has four types of taxis: General taxi, Call taxi, Deluxe taxi and TIP taxi. Taxis black in colour with red caps are equipped with special features such as phones. These taxis maybe hailed down anywhere, including taxi stands. Deluxe taxis are especially visible at the airport, hotels, tourist sites, and transportation terminals. Taxi fare may be paid by credit card as well.
A taxi marked with the official bird of Busan, the sea gull, is different from other taxis. These taxis provide language services such as English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, German and French. Taxi fare can be paid with a variety of cards.
Busan lies on a number of rail lines, of which the most important is the Gyeongbu Line which connects it to other major cities such as Seoul, Daejeon, and Daegu. All classes of trains run along the Gyeongbu Line, including KTX trains which provide service to Seoul in approximately 150 minutes.
The Super High-speed KTX train connects the whole nation within in a fast and comfortable way. It is the newest and most preferred transportation means of the next generation. Busan Station, located near the main port, is the last stop for the Kyeongbu Line (going north to Seoul) and Kyeongjeon Line (going west along the south coast to Mokp'o). The Saemaul train provides the most economic long distance transportation. The trains are equipped with wireless public phones and a restaurant. A slightly slower Mugunghwa train provides great convenience as it is connected with most cities in Korea.
The KR PASS is the tourist pass for railroad travel similar to EURAIL and JR PASS. The KR PASS can be used to travel all over Korea on any railroad line for the duration of the effective period regardless of the number of usage or seating class (except a few designated subway and tour rails). You may purchase the KR PASS at overseas travel agents or local ticket office and then exchange the voucher at designated exchange offices.
