The 1,000-year-old capital of Slovakia is the country's main tourism hub, drawing visitors with its dining, cultural and entertainment options as well as its impressive old architecture. Lesser known than its European counterparts, Bratislava makes for an interesting and off-the-beaten-track city break.
There are a number of unique souvenirs you can pick up in Bratislava, including Slovakian painted Easter eggs, hand-woven and knitted items, wooden handicrafts, crystal and glassware. The best place to look for these authentic crafts is along Obchodna Ulica, the city's main shopping street, where speciality stores line the street.
The oldest museum in the city, the City Museum has been open since 1868 and is the best place in Bratislava to gain a perspective on the city's rich history, from its beginnings to the 20th century. The museum has eight different sites spread across the city, including the main Museum of the City History, the Museum of Arms and the Museum of Clocks.
The city is well connected by rail to other European capitals with the main station being Hlavna Stanica. The most frequent connections link the city with Prague and Vienna, five and one hour away respectively. Bratislava is also connected to domestic destinations such as Banska Bystrica, Poprad, Kosice and Presov but services can be irregular. There are no inner-city train services of use to tourists.
Slovakians normally greet one another with a handshake, as with elsewhere in Europe, and it is polite to arrive at meetings on time. While the locals may seem formal at first, Slovaks are typically very polite and helpful towards tourists so you shouldn't encounter any problems.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
