Singapore’s York Hotel is centrally located, close to all amenities and a good choice for anyone visiting this dynamic city. The city-state's main shopping and entertainment belt of Orchard Road and Scotts Road is short walk away. The financial district is also nearby.

We found this hotel to be a cut above the rest of comparable hotels in Singapore. The staff were excellent who were more than willing to help in anything needed. They were not able to give us what we booked so they willingly upgraded us to fulfil our booking. The location is perfect to access the shopping precinct of Orchard Road and still be far enough away to be quiet and restful. The internet access is excessively expensive for the rates that are readily available elsewhere though. We would recommend this place to anyone staying in Singapore....

endlessly long check-in by inexperienced non-Chinese personnel; took more than one hour after check-in to have a phone line established for local calls; the fridge was locked, took another 15min to have it opened.

I downgraded because 1) they don't have a business center and 2) room maids get in hallway about 730 AM and talk loudly up and down the hall. The doors are not very soundproof. A commend to the front desk on my 2nd day yielded no improvement. Overall, it's decent hotel..

Got a smoking room when i requested non-smoking. Room was ok did not smell of smoke but corridor smelt bad when i was walking to elevator. Elevator got stuck on my floor 2 days in a row. Customer service of hotel poor - they dont even have a conceirge to open the door for you lol..
Buffet breakfast food average-poor. Their hot food is not great - and local cuisine is very sparse (maybe 1 dish only).
Location is ok. About 10-15 minute walk to the MRT Orchard/Sommerset, uphill on the way home.
Value for money fairly cheap considering the inner city location - Hotels along Orchard Road will set you back $$$$. But the addage is you get what you pay for =)

No issues with the Hotel itself. I had requested a double bed, but was given two single beds instead......staff were not too helpful with this issue.

The hotel was the most unfriendly hotel I've ever stayed at. The only person to ever say anything polite was the maid. The doormen opened the door for me once during my 5 day 4 night stay even though they seemingly had nothing else to do. Breaksfast was included and not one staff member ever said hello or good morning the 4 mornings I had breakfast in the factory operated dining room. Most of the time I had to get my own coffee cup and coffee mostly because there was not enough staff. The doors to the rooms were so heavy and the walls so thin that you could hear them being opened and shut all night long. The walls were so thin I could hear my next door neighbors talking. The location was good, the room clean, the maid polite and the price was reasonable if the service would have been better. Next time, I'll certainly chose another hotel.

I thought the York hotel was a fine 3 to 4 star hotel, but not 5. My room and the hotel in general just seemed a bit worn and could use some fixing up. I had just come from a 5 star hotel in Saigon, which deserved its five stars. The push-button light switches by the bed were loose and falling out and the TV sound was very mushy and tough to listen to. The available cable channels were very limited (again, in Saigon had a better selection). The hotel breakfast was fine, but nothing outstanding. The restaurant dinner offered was hawker center style Chinese/Malay, which seemed more set to serving locals than the tourists. The Elizabeth hotel next door offered an Italian alternative. All in all, for the price, what I received was OK, but in high-tech Singapore, I expected better.

The hotel is published as a four star premises when in fact it would struggle to attain a three star rating under any fair assessment procedures. The general standard of the food was quite acceptable and the room service in particular was very good. The staff in general were very unfriendly (no smiles) and they made you feel as though they were doing you a very large favour by being at work for the day. One staff member in particular was the exception, a housekeeper on the 13th floor. She was always cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for her. It was also galling to have to pay for the "privilege" of having a bucket of ice delivered to our room. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and have NEVER been charged for ice. The hotel itself was "well used" and could certainly do with a comprehensive refurbishment. If asked if I would stay at the York Hotel again, I would quite categorically reply "NO". I certainly will not recommend it to any of my family, friends.

A s mentioned above, the location was excellent. 5 star rating for that. other than this, the rooms were spacious, but looked rather run down.we saw a couple of tiny cockroaches!!!( I am serious, not joking ). We were out most of the time,if we do choose this hotel again, it will be because of its location, nothing else. The staff were polite, courteous.

The location was great as it was just a short walk away from the Orchard Rd. Great swimming pool and the room was large and bright.
